New clutch at under 8K......

Recommended Posts

This week the clutch on our 06 WRX was acting "funny" for my wife and then you could smell it everytime it was driven. Took it to the dealer, had the 8k service done and asked them to look into the clutch. Well, service manager calls me back and tells me they have ordered a clutch kit and they will dig into it first thing on Monday. He said there's no sense taking it apart and not having parts read to go. regardless they are replacing the clutch and what ever made it do this. I have the greatest dealership to work with!!!!

Anyone else experiance this??? Only 8k on a 06 WRX (Thrashing doesn't count either) Later, tim

there are a few reasons this can happen. We ruled out trashing. Sometimes mfg defects happen, thats thy there are warrenties. A bad rear main seal, a bad transmission seal, a clutch that wont fully release, all possible reasons.

I've heard about it happening that soon... but it's usually just little kiddies' who don't know how to drive stick.. revin' it up to ~ 6 grand then dumping the clutch

I've also heard of it happening under 'normal' driving conditions just because the driver isn't used to the clutch action, i've found that the new roo's clutches are pretty tight, and have a paper thin engagement.

But, also manufacturing defect is completely reasonable too.

The new clutch is in. It was cooked to well done. both the fly wheel and PP had heat discoloration and the disk was pretty tore up too. The girl at the paper work counter tried to give me the "this is operator caused" and that it wouldn't be replaced again under warrenty. At that point I had a talk with the tech who did the replacement. I told him there was no way this was an operator caused problem, car runs fine for 7,770 miles and then all of a sudden we're ridding the clutch:confused:   . After I filled him in on the pedal acting up he was in agreement and told me to keep a close eye on it.

The pedal does seem alot "lighter" now, it might be the new clutch or I could be imagining it but that's how it seems. Over all I'd give them an 8 out of 10 and that just because of the paper work girl trying to "pull one over on me"

It's unlikely that "the girl" decided by herself to warn you about the warranty issue; rather, it's probable that she was told to inform you of that by the service manager, etc.

Assuming that some (if not all) the other cars you own(ed) have sticks, it would seem you and your wife would have some experience driving them :) . I'd suggest having a talk with the service manager, and come to an understanding with that person, rather than the tech; you may even want to write a letter. Otherwise, if the problem recurs, the tech may forget your conversation, or possibly not even be working for the dealership any longer, leaving you in a difficult situation.
