Crabman
You know I think I am just going to have to take the dash/console apart to really figure it out but I thought I'd ask your opinions first before getting knee deep in it. When I turn the fan all the way up in my 79 Brat, I just get the slightest breeze coming out of the vents. It just seems way too light. I can hear the fan when I turn it on, which indicates to me that the blower motor is OK. I've also checked those plastic hoses that are really easy to get to , and they all seem to be connected properly. So what else could it be that is failing here guys? Subieguy
Just want to make sure that you know that the blower only works on the 2 center vents. The other 2 are just air being forced in through the cowl. That is the metal vent in front of the windshield. They are fresh air vents only. That may change with a A/c car though. Thanks for that piece of knowledge. I did not know that, but I don't really have a breeze coming through any of the vents, including the two centers. And this is not an AC car either. Leeroy
Does the blower motor go faster with the fan speed (1,2,3)? If it does, perhaps one of the cables that controls the air distribution is broken? On my 78 wagon the cable that controled the heater tap (hot - cold) was bent and would not work. Solution? Remove the cable and turn it around in the plastic sheath. Works like new!
Subieguy
Or the fan motor resistor could be bad. It is real easy to check too. On the side of the blower motor there are 2 phillips screws with 2 wires coming out of it. Take it out and have a look at it. It is what controls the speed of your blower motor. If it is damaged you will be able to tell. They are a few little metal coils. If one or more is broken or burnt you have found your problem. If that is the case I may have a extra for you. If you don't want to go that route you may still be able to get them new from Subaru still. If that does not turn out to be your problem you may have the fan motor going bad. Again still easily fixable. I have 2 extras of those sitting around. Again, you may be able to still get one new though.

It's been my hunch that it is a cable or some kind of door or flap. Thanks for the tip Leeroy. When I have a chance, I am going to pull it the console apart and investigate further. Thanks for your help everyone. Crabman

But I am pretty sure that is not the case. I am eventually going to have to pull it apart to find the problem. I will definitely check that resistor.
