Gyoas759
Yesterday my room mate and I were driving home from school in his 1988 Honda Accord and we lost 5th gear. The car just suddenly revved and had no power. All 4 other gears seem to work fine, but if you shift into fifth gear you get nothing. I'm assuming that the gear is broken and a new tranny is in order? Assuming such, I'm only 45 minutes from Harry's U-Pull-It in Hazleton, so getting another manual tranny won't be a problem. I have never done a tranny swap in anything. I figure an 88 Accord would be an easy car to start with. How hard will it be to do the swap? Is it bolt off, bolt on? Just wondering what I should know before I give this a shot.
idosubaru
i know people that have driven without 5th gear for years if that helps at all. just rev that thing out, it can take it!

That's what I'd be doing. Better things to do than swapping trannies that still move cars.
mudduck
Heck, I'd just drive it. I rarely used 5th in my 87 Accord. The things are geared fairly high.
