2K4 STI
On my 87 RX EA82T this morning the Charge,Brake Fluid and Stop Light,Lights were on and the Voltage gauge was just below 12V. It was fine last night when i drove home then this morning these were on. as i drive they go away but when i stop at a signal they come back on. Any ideas on what to check? Not sure if the Alt is going bad or the battery or something else. TIA
nipper
Bad altenator, but go through the usual things first. Clean battery terminals, get the battery load tested with a nice analog tester. nipper

idosubaru
check battery terminals, cables, connections and make sure they are absolutely clean and tight. alternator failures and battery failures often happen in pairs...if one fails i've seen many times when the other fails within a year. so test or keep an eye on that battery too. alternators last much longer if the batteries, cables, terminals are all good, clean and tight. mikeshorts
Yup, I agree with everyone else... I had the same problem with all of the lights dimly staying on... two days later alt was kapoot!!
88RxTuner
Ditto.. My 88 RX Alt failed, half the dash lights came on.. Pretty much standard issue. I fixed mine good.. did a GM 140A alternator conversion. +1 on double cking all your connections. +1 on verifying your battery BEFORE you install another alt.. and charge the battery for at least a few hours before you install the alt.. Undercharged batteries create a lot of stress on alternators, and lead to another failed alt.

daeron
This was the easiest Alternator swap i have ever done. 2 Bolts and the belt and thats it. Cleaned all the battery cables and made sure all the electrical connections are tight and much better now. Thanks for the Help guys mine died 45 miles from my home, on an outing with a lady friend, while the sun was going down. I had affirmed to her that my car, old tho it was, was perfectly in good shape, better than hers, to make the simple but fairly long drive to boca... I had her AAA tow me to the discount (advance) auto parts, bought a new alt, and was saying the EXACT same things, bragging about how, even tho yes it broke down, this will take me five minutes. Ten at the outside. She saw and understood, but then I could not for the life of me get the fershluggin T-plug out. The plastic is buggered ALL to hell, i dont think the alt had EVER been removed (definitely original equipment) and I couldnt push the tab.. OTHER THAN the twenty minutes spent trying to unplug the T-plug, the swap took all of five minutes. I didn't get the girl
