bright lights

want more light from dual headlight 85 brat. struggled and no luck finding factory relay so i could replace with aftermarket. assuming i would need four relays (hi, lo for both sides)? then tried aftermarket lights (H4 conversion) and lights did not seem to work right? any help appreciated.

Quickly (because I'm not that familiar)

 

Stock Subaru lighting is like most Japanese type lighting, the lights are switched (hi-lo) through a "moving ground", rather than the conventional way (moving hot, or +).

Mounting "grounded" aftermarket headlights will fry the headlight circuit, and if they do work at all, they won't work properly.

1 relay, you should be able to do the light thing with 1 relay, OEM, or aftermarket.

Alternator output in stock alternators is not very high.

and would this replace the stock relay (as in should i take it out)

Just relaying your headlight circuit will brighten your lights quite a bit.

1) take a test light to your headlight connector and find out what you have.

2) there should be a steady + and the - should travel between the remaining two connectors depending on the beam selection.

3) I believe that your headlight relay and fuse are to be found in the box beside your battery,

4) repair the system so that it works properly stock before heading into the unknown.

i had that problem on my 88 dl with the quad headlight setup. I came to findout that i had the original lights from the factory. I replaced them with sylvania silverstars. They are bright white lights not blue. Those are buy far the only headlights i will ever use. You dont need to convert anything over. Its strictly a plug and play system. I can see 10 times better then i originally could. On top of that i replaced them in my minivan after one of the factory ones burnt out. They are much brighter then any factory light other then the expensive car lights. HID I believe
