Finally a weber!

Recommended Posts

well it took me a little while but finally got a weber on my 87 hatch. started it up and nearly woke up the whole neighborhood. oh well it was because of the 4k idle so i have a dumb question which is the idle adjust screw and anything else i should check that would make it have such a high idle can't really work on it anymore or else i might have the cops knocking

...

...there was too much tension on the throttle cable.

...

Yes, it could be the Main Reason, but Also you can Consider that There´s an Adjustment Screw at the Carb´s Base of the Accelerator´s Plate (Where you Hook the Cable) and other cause of a Higher RPM´s is Vacuum Leaks.

Check it Carefully.

Good Luck! :burnout:

No screw to adjust for anything above say 1,200 RPM. There's just idle speed and idle mixture. More likely you have a fuel flow issue as in a dirty filter or your pump isn't putting out enough flow. Could be wrong jets, or float level adjustment too..

The Weber flows more air, therefore more fuel, than the stock carb. Your fuel system may have been capable of staying up with the stock carb, but not with the Weber.

Just some "of the top of me head" ideas..

Check your jets to make sure before you buy more. You should have (you'll have to remove the top cover to check them all):

140, 140 Mains (bottom of the float bowl)

160, 170 Air Correctors

45, 50, or 55 idle jet(s). (anywhere in that neighborhood will work once adjusted)

The rest don't matter so much. The emulsion tubes are pretty standard as are the accelerator pump jets. Nearly all Weber set ups use similar jets for these.
