JonnieBlue
Okay, for anyone that may have seen my other post, im scrapping the idea of buying a new car, and instead going to make my current car a 'project car' (way more fun!!). The first thing i want to do is get a different engine. The goal here is speed and preformance. I was thinking about a EJ20T.. any other suggestions to consider? Also, does anyone know of a good sight to research this, so far its been a pain. 86 Sub XT GL COUPE Thnx !

northguy
Where in Alaska? There are a few of us and some are pretty "scoobied" up on things.
JonOfScio
with an XT, I don't think there would be any problem trying to put an EJ series engine in. new mounts, and all of the driveline for the EJ series would work best. you could do it! Imagine your XT with a 2.5L turbocharged WRX STi engine.... mmmmm.....
electryc_monk
No more like a fantazy for me with this silly idea. (Sorry for tangent) imagine an Xt6 with a "newblood" transplant. The 3.0 H-6 Turbo'd and IC'd in its place. That too whould be hot and hard to handle eh Dennis? as for the XT-4 turbo? YEah its doable and been successfully done in Assieland too. JonnieBlue
In another forum, someone pointed out that this 'project car' would end up being fairly expensive job after putting in a 2.5L Turbocharged STi engine, and wouldnt be able to resell.. That kind of dashed my hopes for my subie... Is it really going to be that big of a loss, or would you just go for it? It would be a great little car when im done with.. Any comments appreciated
northguy
It really kind of matters where in AK you live. If you live in Anchorage or Fairbanks where you have to pass IM inspections, it won't work as you'll never get it past the inspector. It'll blow his mind. If you are in an outlying area, you can probably sell it eventually as there are a few enthusiasts, but you'd do better advertising it in the lower 48. Sure, it would haul a$$, but the bottom line is that the blue book value for it will still be based on the host car, at least that's how an insurance company will approach it. incognito
bah.. this conversion talk is makin me wanna put a damn 2.5 EJ25 in a real BRAT and not a stupid gay BAJA. BTW.. them ****in impreza dip****s aint got a thing figured out. The ONLY one to be talkin about conversions on that board is EBY! He has a 2.0T in a '94 Impreza L . Other than that... they're only into looks and borla crap.
Dr. RX
BW Medic, and what am I??? Chopped liver???? As far as I know, I am the only one on this board in the USA that has successfully installed an EJ series engine and tranny into an EA series car. JonnieBlue, it would probably cost too much for shipping, but I have a flip clip from a 94 JDM WRX STi (250hp). That would include the engine, tranny, complete front wiring harness and the ECU, all for $2000, but you'll have to arrange the shipping from Seattle. Actually the driveline from the EA series works fine, but needs to be shortened 55mm. You'll also need the tranny support from a XT6. These kind of projects are one of a kind cars and as such, are not as desireable to the general public for resale, in other words, there is only a small group of buyers for these type of cars. But you are building it for yourself, not for resale, so why worry about that.
