Old member back! Anyone seen my car?

Recommended Posts

I re-used my old screen name and used to be a regular on here a long time ago. I was wondering if my old Subie was still on the road or if it met a horrible fate. I sold it to sombody in Iowa if memory serves me, but cant remember the screen name.

Also, I am looking to put a EJ20T in my Chenowth sandrail...so I might be poking around the newer section a bit! :headbang:

Mick had that car and put the decals on it. IIRC he also hit a deer and messed up the pushbar, but mick being the Subaru master he is... fixed it and you can never tell it ever happend.

He sold it to someone else on the board, who is a member. Not sure who it belongs to now, but your car is well known by the USMB locals.

I put alot of work into that car back in the day. Back then it was one of the few with a lift kit and all of the goodies. Too bad it wouldnt pass smog in California anymore. I really missed that car.

Looks like time and rust has really taken its toll on the ol' girl. :(

WOW! I must have been gone a LONG time! When did people start doing SAS under thier soobs??

I sure miss that car...it was a one of a kind out here in SoCal. I sure hope she gives you the same amount of fun and enjoyment I got out of her. BTW, before she was the Mountain Grizzly...She was affectionately known as "The Tomato"!!

After getting rid of the soob, I inherited a Bronco II and built that up. She now sits on 35's, locked front and rear and a t-case doubler. It has taken me to the Rubicon, the Dusy Ershim and will be going to Moab this year.

And as previously mentioned, I will be lurking in the newer forums. I will be installing a EJ20T in my sand rail once I get the mid travel suspension worked out!

Hi,

I remember meeting you in OKC the day Mick bought the car from you. We drove it back to Iowa without a hitch. Mick took it to West Coast Subaru show #3 in Thurston county Washington with only one overheat as I recall. That car is pretty darn famous around here and for good reason.

Its been rode hard and put away wet a few times over. :)

Nice to see you back here. For a crawler machine you might want to avoid the EJ20 turbo engine and go with a non turbo so you get the power at the bottom but you already know that...At least do an Ej20 setup with a 2.5 turbo shortblock so you can have some torque and the turbo fun.

If you want another Subie wagon theres a guy moving out of Cali I think up north selling a silver 84 one that looks great...esp for the $ he wants for it.

Hey Shawn!

Im glad to see the old wagon is getting lots of use!

As for the EJ20T swap, its going in a sand rail that sees lots of desert and dune use. With a bus tranny the gears are pretty low. So it will spend most of its time in the upper RPM range, Torque shouldnt be that much of an issue. A car under 1500 lbs with an EJ20T should be pretty quick!

Welcome back!!!!!

yes, that car was like a boomerang :) for me...

I sold it to a friend after building up my Red Brat, then 2 years later I got it back needing an engine, tranny, radiator... fixed it up and sold it to my dad for a year, then got it back again, did some more work to it, then sold it to bluebaru!

actually, it's now got the engine back in it that it came from Cali with !!!

this is one of my favorite pics of it... shortly after it came to Iowa....

Hope to see you around in the newGen !

I loved my old Subie...but I dont have time to build another car. I think I will stick with my Bronco II on 35's!

I have my Bronco II, Chenowth sand rail getting the EJ20T swap soon, 54 Ford Coupe getting a frame off....So I have WAY too many projects going!

That car's been everywhere. It made it to the West Coast 2 times.

I know what Mick means by boomerang. I bought my current brat at an auction in 01. Sold it to a Soobie Mechanic, and bought it back from him 6 months later. Built it up with a lift and stuff, and sold it to a retired guy in Idaho. Bought it back in June of this year, flew down and drove it back.
