monstaru
got the glass cleaned out of it(broken type)......picked up all of the bolts /fasteners/parts in the cab and stored them.printed out some vacuum diagrams ,electrical diagrams, and placement diagrams so that i can make sure everything is there.waiting to see if i get a blue dash or not. going to get all the necessary tune up items tomorrow if i can swing it.after i get the tune up stuff on then i will see if she wants to start up and start diagnosing any motor probs.cheers, brian
monstaru
so spent the day running down an electrical gremlin.turns out to be wire colors that are not even close to my diagrams are feeding a plug that i am guessing is the ignition relay plug.after running my multimeter into the ground (like dirt ground:lol: )got another multi meter and started the day. so i had been testing for spark obviously and was not even getting juice at the coil.so i remember superbrat saying thet the previous owner was indicating that the ignition relay was to blame for this.so in my infinite wisdom i sayhah,i can get wiring digrams for this and go print some off .well, the wire colors that are on the diagram are not the colors i find on any but one plug.fiddling around with that for like 3 hours finally pissed me off.so i decided to go get another multi and start the real deal. so i methodically checked any plug that remotely looked like it would fit a relay.that being 2 of them it was apparent very quick that my diagrams were wrong.or at least i think they are.anyways, the moral of the story is,there are very few ways to get spark on a car.so i put a jumper wire in the plug that i thought was going to bring me home and voile'....spark. tomorrow i am going to help a friend of mine that has a brat and no spark.today was just a lesson.tomorrow is the test. now i will put my pretty radiator in,add the proper fluids, finish the tune up....oh yeah.cap, rotor, andplugs went in today.wires come in tomorrow.filters are new.will change oil after i get her runnin.then move on to the transaxle.pics in the next couple of days.cheers, brian
monstaru
got some coolant in her ,i guess she needs oil now.so will actually do an oil change today after work i hope.spent the time i had last night cleanin various things up.there was some junk in the carb, and various pieces of who knows what around on the engine.blew it off with the compressor this time and i think it needsa wire brush.gotta find my big one sos i can get to work on that. i need an ignition module for sure. i retested all of my connections to make sure i still had spark and wasn't just delirious after the other days shenanigans.still got it.but only with the jumper wire.doesn't really make sense i guess.but it is what it is.have to go to the yard and find one.may pull one from monstaru to see if that works, that will determine if i have to dig deeper.cheers, brian
monstaru
ok,either there are 7 ignition modules downstairs that are junk.......or something else is wrong. any ideas why i would be able to put a jumper wire in the middle of the plug top and bottom and get spark, but not with any of these modules? good fuse, what am i missing......... you may be right bret.two weeks is A LITTLE TIGHT.but it being an 83 if i wait till the end of the month anyway,i can license it without having to take emissions testing.we have a 25 yr law now. i have everything for it though.just have to switch from the other brat.I GOT THAT DASH!!!! from andy.anyways.gonna try and get the gas tank switched over today at least. any ideas folks?been looking at 4 different diagrams from 82 to 84.all leading to the same place......but its not working .cheers, brian
monstaru
mounted a fuel tank today.had to cut some new fuel lines,we'll see when i can get back to it. ran into some snags with some health issues earlier this week.so had to take it easy. so i took something easy and turned it into something hard.ignition relay no.duh.i kept thinking that and kept looking at it.but was actually looking at the fuel pump relay.DOH!bratsrus1 and i talked about it and he said at one point he had the same issues.tried a few and they did not work. he jumped some wires and ran it,sold the brat to shawn and shawn ran it for a while as well. when i get back to it i will run the jumpers and make her run. am going to get a rebuild kit for the weber,it could use it i feel.been ran for 2 yrs since last rebuild.i'll put that on pretty quick here and make her run like i want her to.then back to the interior. suppose to be gettin more snow tonight, that could slow me down.we'll see.cheers, brian
monstaru
well i got her to run.wll i might add.but decided with an extra ej or two in the back room i might as well.she will be getting the 2.2 that i resealed last fall.do not know if i will wire it or carb it yet.cheers, brian switching this to an offroad brat.check offroad forum for details.
