84 GL wagon 4spd D/R 4wd

Newly installed EJ18 from 95? Impreza. ECU, intake and harness from a 93 Legacy.

redrilled rhe original EA81 flywheel for EJ. AA copy adapter plate.

 

SPFI air cleaner and air tube used with ABS plastic and extra legacy intake to make CIA/Snorkle.

Off the shelf radiator hoses to make the adaption from EA rad to EJ and extra length for 6" lift. I got a good pic of the goodyear part#. These hoses would likely work for a 4 inch lift too.

EJ and EA Alt harnesses mated. Sodlered a pigtail on the EJ harness to plug EA body wires into.

EJ fan control interupted and run through Double Throw W/center off switch controling ground side of fan relay. Fan can be defeated, Turned on, or ECU controlled depending on this switch.

Other: 4/3" SJR lift, 6-lug conversion, 27" AT2's on 15" Nissan steels, SJR adapter plate, welded diff, custom tow bar/bumper, lights, CB, etc.

Future plans: Legacy seats, 2.25" cat-back exhaust into glasspack, custom roof rack, more lights, rear bumper...it never ends. :grin:

I suppose I should be on here too now:

 

Engine: '91 EJ22

Chassis: '85 Brat

Tranny: EA82 5-speed D/R

Suspension: KYB struts/shocks, Whiteline rear swaybar

Other: STI motor mounts, rear disc brakes, redrilled hubs, EA81 turbo engine crossmember (which means I should start trying to turbo it), K&N cone filter on a Vibrant MAF adapter, probably a lot more that I can't think of right now

Revised:  This car has been Totaled.  Loaned it to a friend for a while and this is what he did to it.  head on into a Tree at 40mph

Specs:
Original car: 89 GL Turbo Fulltime 4wd Auto (4EAT)
EJ Engine: 96 Legacy Outback 5mt (EJ22 single port)
Trans: 5 spd S/R 4wd from Loyale.
Other notables:
-Full OBD II capability retained
-Cruise Control computer, pump, and throttle cable from EJ harness retained, and mated to the GL's original cruise buttons (GL's dealer installed cruise kit stopped working after the flood)
-Temp gauge corrected with 275 ohm, 1/4 watt resitor
-Impreza Intake boot with cone filter on MAF sensor.
-EJ (90 Legacy) radiator

Here is the replacement.

 

86 GL wagon.  Started life with no options, 4wd, in Afgan-Army beige.

Using the same 96 ECU, intake, and harness from the crashed car. 

 

94 EJ22 with fresh rebuild (rings, bearings, valve grind)

9? JDM EJ20 heads with Roller/solid rockers.  Ported intake and ported/polished exhaust.

96 Outback 4.11 Manual AWD trans, custom crossmember and driveline.

EJ cruise adapted to EA buttons.  Heated seats from 96 Outback.

 

Other goodies include 2" HighGuys lift, 205/70/15 on redrilled Yota rims, Rear disc brakes, XT turbo Swaybars front/rear, Swing out spare tire mount, Custom 2 tone "Outback Limited" paint and badging.

Trans: JDM 4spd Auto with electronic locker (will be swapping out for WRX 5spd)

Rear Diff: 4.11 with Limited-Slip

Susp: H&R Progressive rate lowering springs on Tokico struts

Exhaust: Modified HKS 3" cat-back with resonator from Lancer EVO VIII

Interior: RHD swap without airbags, and soon a Rally-America approved cage

Exterior: JDM BG projector headlights and fog lights, JDM BG side skirts, and JDM Zero inner-structure bumpers (about 60lbs lighter total).

 

Lots of other mods on the way.

Body: 1992 Loyale Wagon

Engine 1993 legacy 2.2 (Harness stripped by Suberdave)

Transmission: 5sp ea82 4wd

Suspension: King Springs with KYB GR2's

Wheels: Stock Motion Wheels for now. I need to burn them up so I can rationalize new tires for the 14" pugs steelies in my basement.

Other: GL-10 rear discs.

 

The final product is worth it.

Body: '92 Loyale wagon

Engine: '00 Legacy/Outback EJ251

Trans: '89 5 Spd D/R

Interior: Stock minus rear seatbelts due to rust, 2 seater.

Exterior: custom safari rack w/ custom gutter mounts, added lighting.

Suspension: 2" lift, BOSS (Bill Ohmlin), Crossmemeber lowered 1" or so with 2000 outback crossmember blocks.

Wheels: 14" Pug Alloys

Tires: General grabber A/T

Other: Exhaust: Impreza UEL Header, stock ej25 cats, followed by a glasspack (24") and a bend to exit the exhaust out front of the rear wheel, soon to exit both sides at the same place.

I am just doing finishing tweaks on my swap:

 

1987 GL wagon

4" SJR lift

15" AA rims

Rear disk swap

EA82 FI fuel pump

 

1999 Impreza Outback Sport donor:

Phase II EJ22

Y-pipe, cats

2.25" cat-back exhaust with resonator and Borla Pro XS

EJ harness with EJ Main and Fuel Pump relays and computer

EJ Main Fuse box powering Chassis

My GF's "new" 91 Loyale

EJ18 engine, harness, ECU.  All from 94 Impreza Donor car.

EA single range 4wd stuffed into a EJ 5spd case.  EJ clutch and flywheel, no adapter.

 

I'm very happy with this install....very clean. 

 

A/C compressor not hooked up yet, but soon....need some adapter lines made to fit EJ pump to EA condensor.

 

I drilled a 2" hole with a hole saw though the blank where the JDM steering wheel column would be.  Ran all the wiring through that hole using Grommet from the Impreza.

Other mods to the car include 185/70/14 tires on redrilled Nissan rims.  86 GL-10 height adjusting seats.  Home made Trailer hitch.
