electriczipper
Hello, My stock ignition coil is leaking and I want to upgrade. My question: Is the MSD blaster 2 mdl 8202 coil compatible with 86 GL wagons, and is it just a straight out swap or do I need something else to insure no damage to the electrical system? Thank you, and all help appreciated! EZ

GeneralDisorder
It's bad on the distributor ignitors to use these "performance" coils. Stick with OEM as there is nothing to be had in the way of performance here. Only a potential for failure with a cheap mexican coil and an expensive, hard to find distributor ignitor. electriczipper
Put the question to customer service at msd and will post their answer when it comes.Thank you! EZ Here's something I didn't notice yesterday. http://www.msdignition.com/cgi-bin/app_guide_3.pl Yes I punched in the year, make, & model and the coil PN8202 comes up compatible. I wish I'd seen it yesterday. They don't recommend installing it in the horizontal position(probably shortens life span), but upon checking which one I installed on my ford a few years ago(30k+ mls) it is the same 8202 and in the horizontal position. No problems so far, it's installed with the msd ignition box also though, if that makes a diff. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. EZ

EZ I couldn't wait for the email so I called support. The answer is I can use it if I put a 2.3 ohm ballast resistor to it, so as not to burnup the ignitor. Thank you GeneralDisorder! electriczipper
http://www.thepartsbin.com/catalog/products.php?year=1986&make_text=subaru&model_text=gl&category=engine_electrical&subcategory=ignition_coil ThePartsbin.com has the hitachi OEM coils for $40 Here( http://halseyimportparts.com/ ) you can get them for $24.00 . Between the two of them a person otta be able to save a little green. Yep, I went with the OEM. Figured it's less likely to spawn complications.
