1977 subaru
hello all I have a 1977 subaru 4x4 wagon. It was my very first car. I am almost done building a house myself. Then i would like to restore my first car. It was mild yellow with plastic wood trim and like a contact paper woodgrain on the side. Of course being 16 I took the woodgrain off. Does anyone know what i would get to replace that? I probably have most of the plastic trim since I seem to save everything. If anyone knows what would look close to origional i would apreciate a reply. My wife thinks this is silly so I must proceed with this. thank You
GeneralDisorder
That's quite a rare item you have. Those woody wagons weren't all that common, and even less common now as I would assume many people ripped the stuff off. You might want to start by posting in the "Historic" section of the forum as your '77 is from the era covered by that section. There's also a couple people on this board that make and sell decals. You might want to send out some PM's on the subject as someone may be near to you or has access to a similar body style and could reproduce the decals for you. There are no sources for this stuff in the aftermarket so don't waste much time with that approach. It's going to have to be NOS, or custom made. psychsurf
How high-end do you want to go? I play with veneers a lot making surfboards, and I've often thought about using a stick-on veneer to woodify a wagon. If you've got one that came that way stock, it seems like it would be worth the time and expense to do it up right. You're making the wife mad already, right? Here some stuff: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=2213 Some of that on a very well-prepared body surface, with a good clear-coat over the top of it would be orders of magnitude better looking than a decal. Not cheap though, and you'd have to cut it yourself... But since you're looking at custom decals to get it back to stock anyway. It would totally rock, I'm just sayin'. The bill of sale called it "wood apple" dont know if it was dealer installed or not but cost $299.00. Thanks again
Major Lazy
Hes not talking about REAL wood is he?? just typical old vinyl probably. I have seen plenty of that stuff out there. JC whitney has some http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2006573/p-2006573/N-111+10201+600002169/c-10101
ShawnW
A Subaru with real wood on the side would have been hilarious IMO.. As equipped, 14.2 MPG. With the woodgrain package removed 28. Thats assuming you wipe the car down with lemon fresh pledge before driving.
