Congratulations; I hope the fix is permanent. Good idea on making the changeover to the relay easy for the "little lady" (and yourself :) ). However...

You previously mentioned that there was a click of the starter solenoid heard -- a bad neutral safety switch contact wouldn't typically allow that.

It's been warm (for winter!) the last few days, and marginal starter contacts (etc.) often work in that circumstance.

Yes, please do post if it fails again, but also if after several weeks things are okay, as confirmation of the repair.

I just recovered my 1996 Subaru legacy after it was stolen from the hospital parking lot, while i was in the ER losing my first pregnancy at 46. Needless to say, I have been deeply hurting and being targeted for victimization by car thieves based on the knowledge that when I got out of my car alone at the emergency room, I would not be returning to my vehicle right away, is disgusting and evil!!!!

They have completely trashed my car, stolen everything in it, including my dirty laundry that was bound for the Laundromat, right down to my OEM floor mats!

Because they took my manuals from the glove box I'm having trouble finding a relay to pull when I park, that will disable the vehicle and prevent another theft.

I tried all of the relays in the main relay box under the hood, and none kept the car from starting after turning what was left of the tumbler with a pair of needle nose.

Can anyone help identify what relay I need to pull out when parked, in order to disable  it from use?!

Wow I’m sorry. That’s an atrocious set of circumstances. Hope you’ve got good people and ways to cope. That’s crazy people target a hospital, wow.

The relay is down by your left leg up under/behind the dash. I think it’s to the side, like above where your left edge of your left foot is

I’m unsure if they make any that fit Subarus but there are Bluetooth relays you can just use your phone to give permission to start   I assume there’s an automated proximity option, but haven’t used one I would be looking into this if I were you.  Keep the old relay in the vehicle somewhere in case the phone was lost or bricked

Popping the hood isn’t ideal as anyone watching can probably tell what you’re doing and where you’re doing it.
