legacyak
I'm changing the front and rear differential oil in my 00 OBW 5 speed this weekend. Do the drain plugs have to be sealed with anything after? IE do I need to put RTV sealant or anything else on the bolts or washers?
idosubaru
your owners manual may tell you. i've never used anything but i think something is recommended because others have mentioned it before.
idosubaru
i thought i had read something before about this, because i had never used any sealant before. so i looked it up for kicks, found it using the search button, here's a thread mentioning a sealant on the plug threads (check the second page of the thread): http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=76516&page=2&highlight=differential+plug
porcupine73
Yes Subaru calls for a sealant for the rear diff plugs. Your manual trans drain plug has a copper sealing washer I believe, which is good for at most one use. It is covered in this thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=82095
