doogymon
Hi. My 97 O/B has become an extension of my $@ and I really can't live without her/it....... So I'm hoping you folks can fast track my fault finding procedure with some quality recommendations and I appreciate your expertise in advance. Here is the scenario (s) and you have seen most of this before: When the weather turns extremely damp (rain, fog and cold humidity) the old Girl misbehaves. In fair weather all is well. In cold, non-damp weather ..all is OK. Hard start and rough idle followed by hesitation with acceleration at low range. This phenomena disappears after about 2 miles. or The Battery dies after half a crank and I need a jump. Car runs fine til next wave of dampness .or The Battery dies after half a crank and then won't fire with jump start though turns over nicely and I can smell fuel. Right now my Subie will not fire up. Codes - 0107 (pressure sensor). Checked voltages but all OK???? Battery Terminals clean. Alternator Wiring Harness corroded at DC plug on top of Alt but conducting and I am repairing with new white wire. Haven't checked grounds straps. Haven't analyzed battery but it is 2 years old and holds well after jump. Haven't checked all cables/harnesses i.e. starter, negative on battery, sensor harnesses. Tnks Kindly
Skip
Howdy Doogy, First thing you need is a new set of spark plug wires. Best to stick with the factory units. Sure sounds like one of you battery connections needs cleaned. OR Some how the battery has gone toast or is a Neverstart unit (Walmart brand down here) Your list of want-2-du s is going to help. as I hope this answer does. nipper
this is 100% typical of cracked coil/bad wires. I get the feeling this hasnt had a tuneup in a long time either. Use OE wires from one of the online suplliers, I've seen them for 30.00. Use factory recomended plugs May as well do the PCV and fuel filter while there. Starting issue MIGHT be starter contatcs if you are getting no crank. Clean the top of the battery using baking soda and water. When it wont start is it a full power crank then just runs out of steam? How was the battery load tested. nipper
doogymon
Thanks Skippy and Nipper I sorted out the DC Harness on the top of the Alt real nice as well as few other items and she fired up nicely. In the process I found my Air Box to be not completely closed and this maybe what is throwing my Pressure Sensor code. Also explains the greater level of air intake noise. I seem to have problems closing that air box up. I bet their was a huge level of moisture in my intake given the amount of Southern Rain we have had. Melted almost all of our snow dang it. Global warming sucks. Anyhoo, I am back in action and now I will attempt to go over all points with a fine tooth comb. I will get my battery analyzed. Anybody have a source for that monkey wake that is used to plaster electrical connections to a terminal and make em corrosion inhibited? Thanks again fellas.
