Installing Fuel Pressure Gauge and RRFPR, EA81T

Recommended Posts

Did a search and found nothing. Has anyone done this before? What would be the best place to tap into? The factory suggests to check it where the input line connects to the fuel pressure regulator. Is this acceptable or should it be after the stock FPR? It will be going on an EA81T.

Also installing a rising rate fuel pressure regulator. Does anyone have any suggestions on that?

I had a rrfpr on my old white RX. However, I was using custom fuel rails...

If you could draw a quick diagram of what the stock system looks like, I could help you figure out what you need to reroute. At the moment i'm having a hard time remembering what a stock system looks like.

I tried to do a search for WJM's fuel system setup. I could't find it, but I did a little drawing to illustrate basically what he had done.

Fuel_System.JPG

This is how I would set the system up. I recall this to being how WJM had his setup. All the hose to the 4 injectors should be equal length.

Maybe this helps?

Yes, it should be possible to install it on the factory rails.

If we could come up with the schematic out of the fsm I could point out where it needs to be.

From what I've been told and read, you do not wnat to run 2 FPR, so you will need to replace the stock one with the RRFPR.

A basic FPR or RRFPR opperates and should be hooked up like this:

Is the RRFPR just an adjustable 1:1 or is it a 3:1, 5:1, etc...?

I too am installing an adjustable FPR. Its a Malpassi one.

The stcok system goes like this

Fuel pump > High pressure lines to engine bay > Fuel rail > FPR > Return

So you will want to replace the factory FPR with your new AFPR.

The Input on your AFPR will come from the fuel rail.

The output will go to the Return line back to the fuel tank

And the Vac line will go to the intake manifold

??

Tex gave you this

"From what I've been told and read, you do not wnat to run 2 FPR, so you will need to replace the stock one with the RRFPR."

AUsubaru

gave you this

"So you will want to replace the factory FPR with your new AFPR."

That is the way I figured it would have to work.

Your diagram shows this also??

Don't you believe them?

Looks like the FPR will be a breeze to put on, but what about the gauge? Does your wagon have one Skip? Where did you tap for the sender? Should it be before the FPR or after?

I put mine in the line from the fuel filter

to the fuel rail.

Remember

aside from some line loss - any point from the fuel

pump up to the FPR

would be equal pressure.

Incidentally, I was not real excited about having

a pressurized fuel line running into the cockpit

so

I used an electric oil pressure gauge.

The diaphragm in the sender is made to face all sorts

of gas oil mixtures.

May not have been as accurate as a pure mechanical unit

but .....

To quote Sir F. Zappa - NO Poofters.

Hope this helps.

  • 4 months later...

Tex, or anyone who has built their own fuel rails, do you have a shopping list of the parts I would need to get? I'd like to throw enough parts on the car that once I get all the systems tuned properly, I won't have to do any supporting mods after the thrash.
