monstaru
define:"fit" you can make almost anything fit.thats what big hammers and sawzalls are for. do you mean has anyone done it?well then that would be the question to ask.cheers, brian
subaru360
I have never tried, so this is just opinion, but you'd probably have better luck with an early EJ22. The DOHC EJ20 and EJ25 are a few inches wider.
GeneralDisorder
Yes. Should fit ok. Some reworking of the steering column linkage and a lot of transmission tunnel beating will be required. But yes - it could be made to fit. GD
Phizinza
6" lift, EJ22, 5sp D/R... She'll be good.. Or just onroad stuff? The EA81 is the same width as the EA71 I believe, so it should fit a SOHC EJ. You'll need to crack out the tape measure.
Caboobaroo
SOHC EJ will fit with like 1/2" of clearance on either side by the frame rails. Tailgatewagon mocked one up into a gen 1 stage 2 car and came up with the final measurment. Yes, lots of tranny tunnel beating is required to get it to fit right and the engine crossmember will need the engine mount holes ovaled out to fit the EJ mounts in there. Pooparu
I can't imagine that it would be much different then an ej22 swap into a gen 1 BRAT. Here is a link I read awhile ago. You could ask this Canadian what sorts of things he had to do to get his ej22 to fit in his gen 1 BRAT. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=79003
