Greenley
I stumbled upon this site trying to eat up as much info as i could about older subarus. Great information hub ! Anyway, this is my first post, and i figured i would share some pics of my soob with everyone. Typical rats nest when i got it, not much has changed since other than a complete gutting of the interior to literally clean out fossilized mice and all that comes along with them... Obviously not pretty, but he runs like a champ.

I like your wagon. Do some searching around, theres a lot that can be done to those if you want.

Greenley
Thanks for the warm welcome ! There seems to be a lot of potential, although the rust issue seems to be pretty bad. All the doors are rusted through. I had to swap tires today and as i was jacking, lots of rust was falling from that area. No holes in the floor and the chassis is solid, so it may not be all that bad :-\ Might want to put a plate on it if you are going to use it on the road. I've got the temp sticker in the windshield, might as well use the free 30 days of registration the DMV offers.

Greenley
I'm addicted! Here's my new 86 hatch that i traded straight across for a non-op 1980 westfalia. Looks beautiful and runs like champ, i'm picking her up tuesday!
TomRhere
Nice looking Hatch!!!!! The Wagon looks like a typical "20 something" Michigan vehicle. You should be able to find some rust-free doors and such for it. Get after the body rust before it really eats into the metal and you should be good. Any experience w/Rust-Mort like Indrid cold suggests? I'm not too worried about it, because it's in the desert now, but it looks pretty gnarly. New doors would solve some of the problem, but the area which you would jack your car up, under the doors, on the body ( name ?! ) is pretty shot as well. As a matter of fact, as i changed my 3rd tire in a week, the jack pushed right up and bent the heck out of the metal with rust showering the ground. I'm probably not jacking it up correctly, but it's the way that makes the most sense to me. I wish i were taught these things in school, as opposed to irrelevant jibber jabber :-\
TomRhere
No, I don't have any experience with using either "Rust-Mort" or "Por-15" myself, but read of good things about them on here. All 3 of my BRAT's have some rust on them, so this Spring, I'll be getting some experience with one of them. The body part you're talking about crushing with the jack is the rocker panel. I think you can find replacements at rustrepair.com, but I can't say for sure without going there myself. Worth a look anyways.... Alternatives would be to get some from a scrapped vehicle, or cut-out and replace the bad section(s) with some sheetmetal. Welding is involved, regardless of method used, be it new, used or home-made. I use either the engine cradle or rear diff to jack my vehicles up with, placing jack-stands under the main frame rails, usually right in my way..... :-\
