brus brother
Adding oil to my 90 Loyale I noticed the inside of the filler cap had a yellow/cream color coating of what I suppose is degraded oil. The PCV valve is functioning and the lines are clear. The car runs fine. What are other possible causes for the condition?
MilesFox
water, coolant, or steam in the crank case
EmmCeeBee
I haven't had that problem in my EA82..... But in my first Sub (1976 wagon), it was something I lived with. The oil filler tube is so long and sits so high above the engine, I figured it collected condensation on the inside of the cap. The design of the engine (at least this mechanical feature) hasn't changed in all these years. It might just be cold-weather condensation..... If there's no other sign of latte (like on the dipstick, inside the PCV hoses, or inside the valve covers), I think I coud live with this explanation. -- Mark
MilesFox
most likely nothing bad like coolant in the oil, but its definately some form of moisture i had a motor that did that, but no sighn of bad head gaskets or leaks or anything.. wipe it all off and see how long it comes back
moosens
Moose man says it is a headgasket going and that I just might have my pushbutton 4WD 3spd auto tranny by Christmas!! Actually, these suckers have been known to drive many miles in this condition.I'll have a spare motor soon if you want to swap one in to keep it away from me.I've got a few options for you if you're interested.Call or email. WagonsOnly
Great, Moose, sell the car and THEN get the tranny... I second the head gasket opinion. Probably just condensation or you would've had hard starting/steam coming out of your tailpipe by now. But if you want to give Paul that tranny, by all means! Nug
Don't worry about it. My S-10 does it, my girlfriends toyota celica and VW cabriolet do it, and my vw (with air-cooled engine) did it. It's engine mayonnaise.
MilesFox
start paying axtra attention to the temp gauge nad the coolant level to monitor the condition. catch the signs of head gasket failute early should they occur would a re-tourqe solve the problem if the gasket is barely starting to let go? Sure am glad I never told you about my organ donor card. I'm not quite done with the parts yet!:santa: Considering recent weather, I like the suggestion of "condensation" in cold filler tube as the dipstick seems clear and the gasket on the filler cap is shot.
