Swedenboy
If I open my radiatorcap and start engine the coolant pours over. Tried to run the engine warm because I´ve shift the hoses to heater core. Now it's hot in vent but temp gauge is on low, and when I opened the cap cold coolant flushed out. The only hoses warm is the ones to heatercore. I suspect air in system, but I tried to vent it and parked in uphill. Do you have the engine running when filling coolant? Also I get pressure in both radiatorhoses and it's not opening to expansion... !Notice! The engine have run cold ever since I got it, but today we had -26 deg C and it was soooo cold in the car... That's why I shifted the hoses today. I've been running cardboard in front since september and the tempgauge always been in bottom...
ivantruckman
you should fill the coolant whith the engine running, also with the engine thermostat warm enough to be open. have you tried to replace the thermostat, it may be stuck open, or in my case the previous owner took it out compleatly. coolant can also expand enough to flow out if the cap is off, it usally flows into the overflow tank with the cap on during normal use
nipper
ok there are a few issues here. Replace the thermostat and get a new radiator cap. I suspect you have no t-stat in tha car (which is a bad sign). Next slowly fill the radiator with the car running. Allow for the thermostate to open (there will be a surge of fluid). Slowly keep filling the radiator. Put the cap on the radiator, if you have an overflow make sure is is half full. Drive around the block, allow car to cool. repeat filling procedure if needed. If you still have "too much fluid" you may have to investigate a Head gasket leak. nipper
edrach
Just a small addition to nipper's excellent suggestions. Allow the engine to run until the fan kicks in and starts to spin. This insures the engine is up to normal operating temperature when you are topping up the coolent. Let the fan cycle off and on to confirm everything is okay.
