The Beast is Back in Action!

I have finally gotten The Beast back on the road! It has been like 4 or 5 months since I have driven it, and I am very happy to be back in my favorite Roo of all time. I have swapped out the EA82 in favor of the older, more reliable EA81. I know, most of you are probably thinking, why didn't i just drop in an EJ motor? Cuz I didn't want to. Plus the EA81 swap was very easy, no adaptor plates, no wires, no timing belts to change! I ended up using the EA82 flywheel because the EA81 flywheel was 1/8 inch too thick, and it created clutch problems. I had to trim a little bit of metal off the bottom of the engine to get the EA82 unit to work though. I think this motor has more power than the one I pulled out of the car, so I am very happy with my decision to "downgrade". As for my busted out rear window, I replaced it with a piece of lightly tinted Lexan and silicined it in place. I still have work to do though, I still have to trim the rear fnders so the tires don't rub, replace all 4 axles, fix all the trim for the hatch, make a bracket for my EA82 power steering pump, and some various little things on the engine. I had to strip out all the carpet and insulation from the cargo area and I vaccumed out large quantities of water :mad: , luckily NO RUST :banana: . I think I want to Rhino line the cargo area, keep it cheap and simple. I am also working on gathering up stickers to replace the ones I lost along with my old glass window :banana: . I had a few strange electrical issues for a while, but those have been resolved, and everything works just like it did before, including the 1 speed heater fan :mad: . Im just very happy to be driving it again. Pics:

Hell yeah. After seeing your thread it made me rethink my swap. Now I'm asking myself "EJ22 or EA81?" do you have any complaints on power? If not I may consider that swap.

 

actually I think my new engine has more power than the EA82 I had did, but I have a Ford 2 barrel carb and some custom spacers I made for the EA82 manifold. I like it a lot, I thinking about getting a cam from Deta for it though, get a little more power, but it still spins those 31 inch Toyo tires :burnout:

You can adjust the valves no problem in her now.

 

Why did you put that switch right on top of the dual range emblem of all places?

 

Well, I was running out of good places to put switches, and the Craftsman screwdriver is the dual range lever now :banana: I like to keep all my off road light switches in the same place
