Indrid cold
A co-workers roo died on him. His carbed 87 wagon that he bought for cheap transportation is blowing coolant out of the tail pipe. He changed both head gaskets, still leaking so suspect cracked head issues.... I have a head from a 1988 EA-82 SPFI engine, will my spare head work on a carberated EA-82. engine. Also; no coolant in oil, no bubbles in radiator.. I suspect crack in head. +1 for all the info below, I will print up and get it too him so he can come up with a plan. Thanks again. [HTi]Johnson
All the heads are the same, I believe. Except the turbo heads and the occasional Multi-Port head. They have 2 intake ports per head. the thing to do would get the heads pressure tested at a machine shop.
GeneralDisorder
SPFI heads won't have the ports for the ASV's, but you can just delete those. Have him double check the manifold gaskets. Non OEM gaskets are prone to this. OEM only and only 12 ft/lbs on VERY clean surfaces. Non-turbo heads rarely crack. I would be extreemly surprised if that was actually the case. GD +1 Or, possibly the head(or block, rarely)needed resurfaced before the HG change.
