Rooinater Posted February 6, 2008 Share Posted February 6, 2008 well brian has motivated me, so i had to go work on the car. more like changed the tires out this weekend, finally got off my butt and put the tires on. next phase is the pwr steering pump change. then the cooling fans need attention, then the rear shock, then the rear diff. i'm attempting to work in small installments to get it going. the new tires are not very great at approx 8/32's of tread left, but will work for now... all mounted and airsoft bb balanced, smoothest it has every driven down the road!! Rooinater Posted February 6, 2008 Author Share Posted February 6, 2008 let me know what all parts you need.i have a whole gaggle of them.and we can work somethin out.cheers, brian well i have the pwr steering pump (it's in the bag on the front bumper), the front cv is lifetime warranty, i have a spare 4.11 welded rear diff, i had spare ea82 rear adjustable coilovers... but my dad gave them to some friends... grrr... the bushing on the bottom is seperated and tapping on the shock mount. almost tempted to find an ea81 rear suspension and just use shocks. but that will add a lot more cost to the repair. my torsion bars are sagged and already torqued and won't sit level. which is why those ea82 thing-ama-jiggers are on there. i kind of like how they limit the rear travel and keep the axle cups together, but the stub shafts then become my fuse. i'm sure a spare set of tires... other than that i don't know what i need. i know i'll have to bend the exhaust. the way john bent it, the exhaust is right next to the lift blocks, and on side hills it can tap the blocks ever so slightly... scared me the first couple times. i seriously recommend http://www.innovativebalancing.com, you don't have to buy from them. but they have a chart with approximate weights to put in the tires. i did a bunch of research on it awhile ago, on the toyota forums. smoothest balance you'll ever have. go to a sports store and buy .2gram airsoft pellets (non-bio degradeable) and fill the reccommended amount in tires and drive. the subaru has never been so smooth, and these tires aren't worn right. dad is using my iroks, and it's like driving on glass, no vibes at all. Rooinater Posted February 6, 2008 Author Share Posted February 6, 2008 no rush, just let me know in advance, cause i only get pay checks at the beggining of the month... i'm going to run these tires into the ground first. so anytime you are this way we'll have to work something out. any more info you need about bead balancing, i'll try to find it. a lot of people seem to be switching to the bb balancing, especially since it's hard to get a good balance on large tires and one good wheeling trip the balance is off. the beads always migrate to spots that are out of balance and naturally balance the tire. that web site should have a bunch of info on it. Rooinater Posted February 9, 2008 Author Share Posted February 9, 2008 well the power steering pump is replaced. pull the blown front cv shaft, i'm headed to autozone right now to get a new shaft. then lots of homework to attend to. tomorrow or monday, i'll be dropping the front diff, change the oil and install an extended breather hose on the front diff. and also installing the new shaft. i'll post pics of progress this evening. Rooinater Posted February 10, 2008 Author Share Posted February 10, 2008 old pwr steering pump pwr steering pump out new pwr steering pump blown cv, this one was a dusy,all the balls were missing. sitting awaiting an axle, diff fluid change, and diff breather hose. so this is the story from autozone, went to replace the axle on lifetime warranty... got a new axle, got to the car, noticed the threads were tweaked and the nut wouldn't go on... went back in the manager fixed everything, and got a new shaft sent out. it's supposed to arrive tomorrow... get a call tonight from one of their lackies, oh your parts in. awesome i thought... till i get there, axle looks similar... take it home... definately the same one. well the retard lacky, thought it had came in, but in reality it was the shaft to be returned... so still waiting on an axle. well, off to homework. Rooinater Posted February 10, 2008 Author Share Posted February 10, 2008 looks like all you need now is a clean air filter lol. -Dalton it's on the list. the couple summer runs to tahuya made it fairly dirty. but it's been sitting collecting more. the to do list as of now: fix sloppy shifter clean airfilter hose down engine bay change engine oil change front diff oil make front diff extended diff breather to the rear of the engine bay replace front cv shaft swap out rear diff (missing ring teeth in the rearend) new oil in rear diff make rear diff extended breather hose into the cab check tcase oil make or find a shifter boot for the nissan tcase shifter replace rear shock... clean out the inside of the car... anyone have a soob rubber shifter boot laying around that they don't need?? Rooinater Posted February 12, 2008 Author Share Posted February 12, 2008 well i got the shaft today, and the wrong tabs... got them for my trailer... oh well it needed them changed also. tomorrow va appointment and then to tend to the front diff and shaft. finally inspected the shifter linkage... well a few bushings are loose and the main mount bushing is tore through. so it's swinging all over the place. which explains why i can't get into reverse while i'm in low low. so a run to pap this week is in order. and to find a shifter boot for the tcase shifter. who's up for a possible run to tahuya on sunday? i think i should have enough done to make a trip to tahuya this weekend for a shake down run. anyone game? Rooinater Posted February 13, 2008 Author Share Posted February 13, 2008 well got a lot done today. dropped the front diff, drained it, refilled it, installed front diff breather to the rear of the engine bay and reinstalled the diff. let me tell you that's a lot of hard work, that diff doesn't drop out easy like the rear does or go back in worth easy. it's a maze of lining stuff up. installed the new front cv shaft, easiest one i've ever installed... with a little wiggle it just slid through... tightened that down and lost the cotter pin in the dirt... got to go buy one of those tomorrow... for tomorrow, swapping out the rear diff, installing the rear diff breather and finishing the front diff breather install. trim the hose and find a nice location for the end in the engine bay, then tie it off so it stays away from the exhaust. i only got one or two pics, post them in a minute. the car is off jackstands and back on the ground! after tomorrow it can be wheeled, but sometime this week i'll go get the shifter linkage, rear shock, and shifter boot. i'd prefer to get those done, but have all day saturday to finish up the little details for the run to tahuya on sunday. what's left to do: install cotter pin on front shaft fix sloppy shifter clean airfilter hose down engine bay change engine oil swap out rear diff (missing ring teeth in the rearend) new oil in rear diff make rear diff extended breather hose into the cab check tcase oil make or find a shifter boot for the nissan tcase shifter replace rear shock... clean out the inside of the car... Rooinater Posted February 17, 2008 Author Share Posted February 17, 2008 it sounds like it's the rear output of the tranny... sorry brian, it looks like i'll need that tranny. grenaded a cv shaft today also... missing brake pad tore up my front right brakes. it was real interesting i installed the damn pad. i just can't see how it got out. i can't find it anywhere near where i was working on the car, so it was on the car. to do list... swap tranny ea81 torsion bars rancho shocks limiting straps front right caliper front right rotor rear cv shaft (already on order. lifetime warranty) make or find a shifter boot for the nissan tcase shifter clean inside of car find spare front and rear cv shafts...
