cd45
My 87 GL Wagon is idling really rough right now. It is carbed, with a hitachi, 5SP manual, D/R. I just replaced the idler pully and tensioner pulley on the drivers side. There was a miss in firing, I think I fixed it. I have checked the vacuum lines, and haven't found anything. I will look again this weekend. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. I plan to replace the engine this summer anyway, just not ready yet.
[HTi]Johnson
Fuel filters? Could you have knocked the timing off a tooth or a few?
cd45
They are all new, and a new pump to go with them. I am going to check the timing again this weekend.
Skip
a compression test (better yet leak down test) may show something a vacuum gauge can reveal things A can or two of Seafoam has worked miracles on some. One in the tank and one through the carb (slowly).
Gloyale
Below the Pasenger side of the air cleaner is a UFO looking device, with 3 or 4 hoses. Mounted in a bracket thats attached to one of the intake bolts. I forget it's excact name. Anyhow, it has 2 large vac lines, one each runs to a port near the top of the carb, one front, one back. It has a skinny line going to intake vacuum. I've ditched this little item and capped the respective lines on a few cars, and man oh man does it help the idle. edited. oops, brainfart
Skip
G, you aren't talking about this are you? Seems to me this can cause idle issues. (AABV anti after burn valve) Or maybe the AIS silencer? is what you meant? Thanks to mountaingoat for the pic
Gloyale
No, that's not it. I Hate not having my FSMs here by the computer. It has 1 small vac line to the manifold. and 2 bigger lines, one each to the ports at the very top of the carb front and back. And it has one port that is capped on top. It's right above the thermostat housing, mounted in a little clip that it never stays in. Damn, can't recall what it's called.
Skip
G as you really know your stuff, I'm also trying to help cd find this. But I'm corn-fused by these statements "Below the driver side of the air cleaner is a UFO looking device," Then you say "It's right above the thermostat housing" I thought the T-stat housing was on the pass. side??
