mikeamondo
Hoping someone has a quick, easy answer to this one..... Our 99 Legacy, AWD, auto, 2.2L, we just bought seems to be lacking indicator lights on the dash which tell you the gear you've moved the shifter into. There is a black area just under the tack, which I assume is supposed to show a P, R, N, D, etc, while the engine is running... but we get nada. Didn't notice it till we drove at night and you can't be sure the car is in D3 verses D, etc.... Any ideas? Mike
Cougar
Hopefully the trouble is just a bad connection on the back side of the display.
OB99W
[...]Our 99 Legacy, AWD, auto, 2.2L, we just bought seems to be lacking indicator lights on the dash which tell you the gear you've moved the shifter into."Lacking" is the correct word, as in "they don't exist". There is a black area just under the tack, which I assume is supposed to show a P, R, N, D, etc, while the engine is running... but we get nada.Do you mean the area between the "AT OIL TEMP" and "ABS" lights? If so, that's blank. Didn't notice it till we drove at night and you can't be sure the car is in D3 verses D, etc.... Any ideas? The gear selector should be illuminated whenever the exterior light are turned on via the stalk (but not by turning on the parking lights with the switch at the top of the steering column). If not, there's likely a bulb burned out.
mikeamondo
"Lacking" is the correct word, as in "they don't exist". Ah... yes.... well I guess that would explain it. Don't know why I assumed something would illuminate on the dash. I'll dig into the center console to see if I can find a burned out bulb in there. Thanks! M. OB99W
You're welcome. Do be careful; the bulb is on the same circuit as the dash illumination (dimmable), and a short can kill the solid-state illumination control module.
