suban00b
Hey guys. I wanna thank you all ahead of time for all the help that you have given me these past few months. I got a nice tax refund so I am going to do some repairs to the subie. I am getting the Tourqe Bind problem fixed along with the front end shaking issues. The one thing I was hoping to do myself was to fix some rust problem. I don't know if it is a common thing but I have seen it in the past on other subaru's I got a nice little rust colony expanding under the gas tank fill area. It seems to be on the crappy side of fixing. It has created a hole and i can see under bubbling paint that is has spread. How would one like myself go about fixing this issue? If you need pics I can try to get some later on.
gbhrps
Rust through means that the old metal must be cut out and new metal grafted in. If this is the only area on the panel that shows any rot, then a patch is usually put in larger than the rusted area. If it is more extensive, then the entire quarter panel may be the way to go. Regardless, it would be best to leave this particular job to the professionals. Unless you are prepared to drop the gas tank out of the car, don't try it on your own. The slightest spark could spell disaster. Good Luck!
Skip
I got a nice little rust colony expanding under the gas tank fill area. I don't think Mr. gbh knows this is on the side of the car by the fuel door. Thus being the case, I see no reason for this "Unless you are prepared to drop the gas tank out of the car" Have you ever heard of POR 15? Have a look see at this page http://www.por15.com/ Many folks here swear by it.

suban00b
I will have to look into them. The rust is pretty bad though. It has eaten its way through the metal in a area and is working its way through around it. What would I wanna do with that? I need to get a picture. idosubaru
1995 legacy's are so inexpensive that maybe it's worth it to look for one with less rust? i saw a 1995 legacy for $1,000 in georgia last week (a friend of mine may buy it). no rust and new timing belts. i'm picking one up this week for $1,000 and saw another nice one for $1,200. rust is super annoying and one thing i suck at dealing with. i'm not qualified to make things look good so it's best for me to move on. sounds like yo'ure more competent with it though!
