TeamCF
First my specs: 1983 GL 4x4 dual range 4spd, Hitachi carb, 1.8L So I'm taking my GL into DEQ in the morning. But I have a quick question about it. Every diagram I've seen shows an oxygen sensor on my car. But mine never had one, and still does not have one. And it had good tags when I bought it. But it was just about in Molalla at it's previous home. So is there maybe a chance I'll pass or will it be a wasted trip into town? Is there a chance mine never had one at all? (I'm thinking it did, and was removed, but there was no bung for it) If only I lived a mile down the road. I could just go into DMV and pick up my tags without DEQ. Emissions hassles are why I ditched the vehicle the Soob replaced....
GeneralDisorder
It never had one - don't worry about it. Only CA spec 4WD's, and 2WD's had them. GD

hard_core_weeler
my 81 dl has one, and its not a CA emission car.
TeamCF
my 81 dl has one, and its not a CA emission car. Hmmm. Well I'm gonna hope mine never had one and give it a shot. I seem to remember the previous owner mentioning taking it through DEQ before. And it never had one while he had it. (said he never did anything to the exhaust, so he said. Just had to drill out the mixture screw so he could tweak it and then it passed.) DEQ just always gets me nervous. I originaly came from a state with no inspections or DEQ. My RX7 got a ton of $$$ spent on it and when it got to the point that I replaced everything but the engine itself I just gave up. $2,800 on top of the grand I already put into it was just getting old. Now it just sits in the drive with a bunch of new emissions and ignition parts in it. I'm hoping the GL won't suffer the same fate. But I do have an engine for it, was just wanting to get it passed so I can spend some time on the "newer" engine before putting it in. RallyCross is coming up. GLCraig
For the most part, EA81s with 4wd, did not come with an O2 sensor. The exceptions are; subarus sold in Califiornia. After the '84 model year, EA81s (Brats and Hatchbacks) may have gotten O2 sensor due to stricter emission standards. Almost all, if not all 2wd EA81s came with an o2 sensor, the '80 and '81 model years may be the exception.
GeneralDisorder
After the '84 model year, EA81s (Brats and Hatchbacks) may have gotten O2 sensor due to stricter emission standards. Nope - my 85 Brat never had one. GD
GeneralDisorder
my 81 dl has one, and its not a CA emission car. If it has one, then is IS a CA emissions spec vehicle. They were not always sold in *just* CA. There are other places that adopted CA's emissions practices in varying degree's. GD

aba4430
My previous 1981 2-door 2WD hatch had one. The 87 Brat does not.
