Hi everyone, I am a newbie here, and this is my first post. I need to know if a dog gate from a 95 Legacy Wagon (2nd generation) will fit a 94 Legacy wagon (1st generation). I was told by someone locally that it would fit, can anyone confirm if this is correct or not. I am in search of a dog gate for my 94 Wagon AWD 5-speed. Thanks, and looking forward to many posts. This is a great site, glad to be aboard.

I think the answer is no. I checked the internet and both the Subaru OEM and the aftermarket dog guards seem to have different part numbers for the first and second generation models.

The first generation wagon uses a completely different attachment for the cargo cover, and the interior lining is both a different shape and is made of a much harder (and more durable) plastic.

It is still possible that it might fit, but you definitely don't want it coming loose in an accident. It is not good for both the dog and passengers if the dog guard comes flying forward if you hit something or are hit from behind.

Flying objects in station wagons, minivans and other such "trunkless" vehicles cause many injuries and deaths each year.

I got a decent "shower curtain rod" style dog barrier from petedge.com for $45. You can easily adjust it so that it fits tightly. I've been pretty happy with it in my 96 Legacy. I don't know how it would compare to an OEM barrier in an accident. It's easy to see through because it has a few bars instead of a mesh, and it keeps my goofy dog from climbing up front while I drive!
