misledxcracker
I'll bite. I, too, own a problematic Subaru. 1986 GL 3-door Leaks oil from at least three places. Leaks coolant from it looks like the water pump I just replaced recently. Brakes pulsate badly and stopping is difficult. Even with new pads & rotors. Eats front brake pads and rotors every 5,000 miles. Dangit. Needs new steering rack. Steering is very scary, especially in the wind. Needs an alignment also. The three speed automatic is seeping gear oil into the tranny fluid. Gotta go. Windshield is badly cracked. More expensive to replace a coupe's windshield. I get bad vibration and road noise pretty much all the time. Still, I drive it daily, I've put almost 30K on her in one year.
Stevethefolkie
1991 Loyale FWD slushbox sedan - purchased last fall for $300 bucks (144,000 miles) Fixed since purchase: five new, matching tires (including spare) front and rear struts left and right prop-shafts Brakes (all around) wheel cylinders (both sides, rear) windshied wipers all fluids (engine oil, trans oil, hydraulics) cap, rotor, plugs, wires fuel filter water pump timing belts Fixed after son went "off-roading" (avoided another errant vehicle): Replaced RF fender Replaced RF lights Replaced RF suspension New balljoints (both sides) New outter tie rod ends (both sides) exhaust system (from the heads back) RF hard brake line Currently needing attention: Blown out heater core (curently bypassed with some 5/8ID hose - brrrr!) No wheel covers Radio doesn't work (CD player does - need to replace antenna) RF Fender doesn't match rest of car Nifty dent on LF fender ball-peen hammer dents running down left side (apparently the previous owner had a way with making friends) various oil leaks (wish I'd replaced the cam seals ....) irritating trans oil leak (irritating because it drips on the exhaust system and stinks) Needs paint job (after I get the body work done) - That's about it .... msteel
Jacinta (1992 Loyale wagon 4WD). Recently converted from family vehicle to my daily driver. Rust - not too bad yet but unstoppable Hesitates when cold Idle speed pulsates occasionally Sloppy shifter Missing one throwout bearing retaining clip (for about 7 years now) Hard to get in some gears at some speeds (worn synchros?) Suspension feels squishy when loaded or at highway speeds Tires lose air bit by bit Napa CV axle making noise....again Engine drips (don't they all?) Suspension says "brrrrupppp" with hard left turn Weak hatch struts Torn ball joint boots Chip in windshield Exhaust smell in cabin when standing with fan running (except in A/C max)

NV Zeno
Just so happens I've been keeping a written list. '83 wagon, 319,000 miles: -Steering rack creaking badly, but relatively tight. -Idles rough, runs great otherwise. -Need to double check axle nut following recent axle replacement. -Clutch needed soon (this year or next) -New snow tires needed before next winter. -Ignition timing may have slipped, need to check. -Small tear in driver seat. -Some assorted minor rust and dents. -One Wagon Wheel bent. -Lowest fan setting inop. -Right turn blinker won't self-cancel. -Trans drips a little gear oil. -Can't adjust heater temp with dash control. -Strange "scuffing" sound immediately after installing ElCheapo pads. -Could use new calipers, front and rear. -Probably due for another 100,000-mile valve adjustment:rolleyes: . -Paint peeling on hood due to dealer's half fast scratch repair when new (in '83). Its all or nothing with it. -Windshield is cracked and is needing a new gasket like crazy. -Stuck jump seat belt -Tailgate is trash

Subaru_dude
UPDATE: Clutch cable gave out today. Replaced it and what I thought was hesitation caused by failing fuel pump or pcv valve (which I also replaced with OEM) was actually the clutch slipping because the hesitation disappeared with the replacement of the clutch cable. Also replaced front struts, and attempted to do the muffler but it's really stuck. So the list is as follows now because I discovered a few new things. Front DS ball joint Lifter tick Needs shifter linkage (shifts smoother with clutch cable though) Side marker lights don't work on PS Rear bearings starting to make noise No power getting to window brake light thus no workie I hate to brag, but damn ain't she georgous? Robert M
I have an 87 GL Wagon with A/C, power steering, and dual-range. Present motor has about 40k on it. It's all stock, no mods. No real problems under the hood. Clean wiring, many new parts. Absolutely no fluid leaks anywhere/ Cracked windshield, no radio, hole where radio is supposed to go, dent at bottom of passenger side door where I forgot to move an offroad log offroad enough. Back brakes will have to be done soon. Slight exhaust leak at back of muffler. (hole about the size of a dime). A few small tears in the headliner near the back of the car where I tried to cram in a little too much camping gear. The only annoying thing it does is the occasional 'Subaru Tap' that comes around about once a month or so. I know there was a post here a long time ago about this, but I forget what it said about WHY this occurs. I guess that's about it.
