JT95
Well, I've committed to buy two Impreza wagons--one as the rebuild and the other as the parts car. I had looked at the rebuildable in person a couple months ago, but decided after I bought all the replacement parts that I might have more invested in it than I wanted. Then this week I notice the guy had picked up another wagon of the same color scheme that was hit in a totally different spot. So, I'm excited to have a fun little Outback Sport to work on and get going for this spring. I should have all the parts I need, will buy some nicer wheels, put in a CD player, and have the timing belt changed. The rebuildable one is a '99 and has under 80k. I haven't actually seen the parts car in person. It has about 40k more miles on it, and starts and runs, so I'm curious to see it in person. It has the rear spoliers, which is good, so I won't have to buy them and can just swap the entire hatch from one to the other. I'll keep you posted as I get started on this project. I might end up having some 99-00 Impreza parts for sale too. I don't think I can get a salvage title with the 00, but I might look for an Impreza of the same year with a crapped out engine and/or damage on the driver side or rear and put those two together. Who knows...either way, I'm gonna have some fun within the next couple months.
four-fleet-feet
Have fun! May I suggest you NOT get a Pioneer CD, as they use weird color wiring in their harness and it's not worth the hassle to figure it out when so many other radios are out there? You can't choose Subaru-color-to-Pioneer-color wiring. Just won't work right. I actually ripped a DEH-1700 out in frustration when it kept reprogramming itself for no good reason. Then again, the mental capacity of the person (the previous owner) who installed it might have been the real reason. I don't think she could figure out a wiring harness to save her bum! Good old factory cassette works for me, just as long as I can plug in the old Pocket PC and play my 6GB of books-on-tape, mp3's, and the occasional CD with the external adapter! Only $20, too. Imprezas... love 'em...

Yeah--I think I'll just try to get a factory Subaru tape/CD combo and that way I won't have to fool with all the install stuff. I noticed a lot on eBay for a very reasonable price. I'll just have to make sure I figure out what years/models will fit the factory plugs I have.
Bigbusa
Congrats! They're great little cars. You'll love it! I picked mine up on ebay. 96 obs w/180k. It came with a nice 50w x 4 JVC radio that plays mp3's on CDR and has an input jack on the faceplate for an ipod or XM radio. The car needed a bunch of work that I did myself. I put a trailer hitch and the roof carrier on it too. I've got about $1700 total into it. I really like it!
subaru360
You should put some wrx wheels on that, it would look good with them and you can pick them up cheap on ebay, nasioc or craigslist. My 02 wrx came with a 6 disc changer with weather band, it's not bad, the previous owner said it was from a newer forrester.
Bigbusa
The hood scoop on the 97 and later obs's look cool. After 96 also got the cool "outback sport" graphics on the rear passengers doors. Those two things make the OBS look much better. The 96 and earlier obs are kind of bland looking.
pearlm30
used to own a low mile impreza outback wagon, sold it a few years ago and I regreted ever since then. I like the hood scope on the 97 and on. But prefer the 2.2 liter non interference engine on the 95 and 96:banana:

I hate to give up my 95's 2.2 engine, but I think a 77k interference 2.2 engine should do me better service in the long haul than a 225k one... One thing I hadn't considered, though. I like to "camp" in my 95 a few times in the summer by laying the seat down--I'm sure this Impreza will have much less leg room for sleeping. Bigbusa--that's a sweet looking car for a $1700 investment!
