jayxt
I picked up an 87 XT GL about two years ago. It is a front wheel drive with the MPFI EA82. This is my first Subaru. I love this car. The car has run good. I recently installed in a new clutch, tires and front brakes. Rotors and pads. The engine has 150,000 and leaks oil. Now the engine is leaking coolant. If I pour coolant into the radiator it creates a steady stream that seems to be coming from the water pump. After searching past threads on this and other Subaru boards it appears that the oil leaks are common and that I most likely have a bad water pump and/or hoses connected to the water pump. I have purchased a new water pump, valve cover gaskets and grommets, and cam seals and o-rings. I am thinking that I should replace the front crank seal and oil pump gasket as well. Also, I don't know the service on this vehicle so timing belts are an unknown. I will probably go ahead and replace the timing belts, tensioners etc. Anything else i should do while in there? I have never worked on a Subaru but have worked on many other cars. Any Subaru specific tips? Thanks
[HTi]Johnson
Gear wrenches are your friend for the valve covers...make sure you hit up Milesfox's timing belt guide. Right here. It will alleviate any questions about timing belts.
