TeamCF
So a more proper run this time to test my new tires. (They are only 25.5" mud & snows but dang they worked good, I was sure to compare tread patterns, these are very much like the Perelli all terrains on my stepdad's pickup) So I wandered around the west side of Goat Mt. today. Ended up being ablre to go much higher up the roads as lots of snow melted since last week. Can't wait till next week when chazmataz gives me a proper tour of the area. (maybe some others can join us?) I did however find lots of logging roads that were very maze-like. And a little gravel pit area with some good short climbs and gooey mud. On one of the logging roads. This was alot steeper than the pics make it look. and right about where my left front tire is was about a foot drop. I proceeded carefuly, and a little further up, after getting the pic. This was a nice climb. Hard to see just how rough and holed up it was. Took a creative line to actually keep all four tires grabbing. I want to do it again and again. Coming back down. Sorry about the blur, I thought I got it good, guess I didn't. And after all the trouble I went through getting in and out of the hardly able to open door. One last pic at the end. Portland is down there somewhere. Overall a satisfiying run. Now I just have to get those 504 rims balanced. Tire shop couldn't do it and the airsoft bead trick didn't seem to work. So anything over 40 tries to rip the wheel out of my hands. TeamCF
looks like fun! It was. And I hear there is so much more of it around there. Just need to be given the tour. Though I do enjoy the exploring.

TeamCF
The gravel pit was small but fun. Lots of little challenges for rigs of all levels. I'm thinking some spare gas and a GPS is in order for the logging roads. There were intersections out there with 5 to six roads all intersecting. and the cut area went for miles. Needless to say it was getting late, and I was low on fuel so I only ventured on them a little. Someone did put stick arrows at intersections pointing the way out though. ferox
Is that Goat Mtn. south of Estacada? I live just on the other side of HWY 211 from there. That's 15 minutes from my house! if even that far:grin: I want to check that. Give a post next time you go and I'll meet you out there. I can even bring some guns so we fit in...just kidding. Makes me wish my hatch was lifted already, but it looks like you did fine without a lift if I am not mistaken. Sweeeet. I haven't explored too much because I was waiting to burly up my rig some more, but that's in my backyard! Gotta love the public lands of the PNW
chazmataz
NICE PICTURES!!!! your sooby is looking much better now. did you have to do any trimmimg? do you know how far the snowline is up there? we'll see if that is anywhere close to the places i go. some of the trails on the colton side that i go on are alittle rough, not sure if you can make it without an lsd or a locked rearend but there some places that are good trails. but, hey we can always just go exploring too. we'll definately have to try and make it to the top though, i haven't been up there since last year. TeamCF
I didn't need any trimming. Just had to remove a bolt that holds the plastic liner in place up front. They rub a little when in 2WD, backing up hill, with the wheels cranked. Then I get a little footwell rub. I hammered it some but not quite enough. As far as I know the snow is just above 2,500' around there. It will proly be higher by the weekend. As there were places I went last weekend that had close to a foot, and this past weekend those places had no snow at all. And it was a warm sunny one yesterday up here where I'm at. One of these days I'll pick up another diff and give a Lincoln Locker a try. TeamCF
Yup. It's the one near Estacada. chazmataz and I are planning on heading up the Colton (more southwest) side of Goat this up coming sunday. Still not sure on meeting place/times though. We'll proly both be headed there from Sandy. I don't have a lift except for the inch or so the factory adjusters give me. I do however have the largest tires I can cram in the wheelwells without removing fenders or doing alot of body pounding. And I'm running an open diff right now. Seems to do good if I pick my lines carefully.b (a few weeks ago I went out with a lifted Yota and lifted Jeep, they took me down some nasty trails and were drop jawed when I came rolling on out at the ends) I'm sure Chaz will have his lifted and locked EA82. But I know he was working on his more sedate one like mine. I'm sure we'll proly try some crazy trails. And hit some deepish snow. But overall it will proly be alot of exploring and just seeing where we can make it too (Chaz knows the area better than I). Things haven't thawed out fully up there yet. ferox
Is it cheating if I drive my Jeep? JK. My hatch is still in DD form with stock 13" wheels and new radials. I have 14" pugs, but no rubber on them yet, which looks like what you are running. I am doing some cash work this weekend unforunately...$$ for the 5 spd swap and Justy rebuild. Looks like I will have to wait til next time. Have a blast.

Looks like I will have to wait til next time. Have a blast. No problem. That 5 spd swap is gonna rock. Yeah I have 14" pugs on mine. With 195/75/14 tires. About 25.5" tall. Went for 26"ers but when they put one on to see how it fit I couldn't turn the wheel at all. Tire shop said they'd help me adjust the body around bigger tires but not that much. That 1/2" inch seems to make all the difference. (plus the snows I was going to get had really square shoulder tread)
chazmataz
Dude, just take your DD hatch. I'm not going to be taking you guys up any hardcore trails and if you don't want to go up the trail then usually they come back down to the road anyway. my buddy thats going in his yellow wagon, its his DD even though he has 15" wheels and tires on it he doesn't want to break it or bash it up. when i first started wheelin both my wagons had 13" tires and wheels on them and i only went on stuff that i thought i could make and hey theres always reverse. i do have some aggressive 13" tires and wheels we could put on at our meeting place that you could use for the trip. TeamCF
I saw his hatch today. Sweet hatch. But it's not done yet. He's got to finish up his GM alt upgrade and such first. And a few other things. He definitely wants to go out with us once it's done though.
chazmataz
oh well. we'll get him up there with us someday when he gets it done. i would like to get the gm alt. upgrade done to someday so can add somemore lights on my sooby. i have had some KC daylighter to put on there for about 3 yrs. now but iam afraid i'll burn up the stock alternator. was going to add dual optima batteries but was told it help but it would still put a strain on the alternator and shorten its life. so someday i'll look into it more. what i really need to install is a weber carb. and a snorkle next and do a little waterproofing of the ignition system.
