i have a legacy with a non-stock drive belt set up in it. i need a 4 or 5 rib 28 inch serpentine belt. local stores don't have anything that will work...all i can find locally is 25" and 31.5", nothing in between.

looking on line i can't find places that sell belts other than by model/make/year, which won't work here.

suggestions?

Grainger's got a decent selection of belts which they list the lengths of. Here's a 27.5 outside length one in case autozone can't find your part #

http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/productIndex.shtml?search_type=keyword&QueryString=Outside+Length+27.5+In&x=91&y=11&operator=refineSearchResults&originalValue=Vehicle+Belts&searchIndexId=1

thanks guys. Autozone guy was good, took about 20 seconds to figure it out over the phone. Had one in stock but unfortunately it's not very close.

275K4 is the Autozone part number, i'm assuming that's a 4 ribbed belt given the K4 on the end.

Try http://www.autozone.com. You may be able to buy the belt you want from their website. The website tries to steer you to a store, but if you look carefully, you can buy their products on line.

it's sort of impressive how long i've driven it/run it with the optima battery in there and no alternator! but relief is in sight now.

That's an "industry standard" number; it should "translate" as follows:

275 = length in tenths of an inch = 27.5 inches

K = cross-section, typical for automotive application (others are H, J, L, M)

4 = number of ribs

For a good laugh, read the "Key Features" of the Prestone version at http://inpcars.com/serpentine1/242.html .

I assume that's a botched translation from (perhaps) Chinese.
