New guy here

Recommended Posts

Just found this site the other day while looking around at brats and have enjoyed it. My wife has a 05 outback which I like to drive too, it gets alot better mpg than my full size gmc! Anyways I have always had a thing for the brats and wagons, I would like either but my job requires me to haul around coolers or tools usually. So I was wondering how realistic is it to find a brat and use it for a daily driver. I am going with the excuse of fuel to the wife but I just like them. How about mpg, parts, that kind of stuff, I would probably try to do most of the work myself. Need it to seem somewhat practical allthough I do have a 1963 Sprite, so I can talk pretty smooth when I want to! Thanks for any advice!!

welcome to the club. where in the outer banks are you?my dad lived in kill devil hills for a while.

depending on what you have to haul, a brat or wagon should be fine for you. should get relatively good milage as long as you keep it tuned up properly and should damn fun to play with as well.

Welcome to the board!! Brats are being subject to price gouging right now... in REALLY good shape they usually sell for something around 5K on e-Bay. I think I saw a Brat, or maybe even a Brat plus a parts Brat, for $3500 on Craigslist. I'm pretty sure it's in Asheville. But anyway... you'll almost definitely have to do a little work to it for it to be a reliable daily driver. They tend to get neglected. The bed is only 4ft long though. You could get an EA82 or EA81 wagon and carry whatever you have to either on top or on a trailer... there's a guy on here who delivers kitchen appliances in his EA82 wagon. They're quite roomy in the rear.

when you find your brat, make sure to check under the carpets in the cab corners, front and rear. also, take a close look at the rockers and where the frame merges into the body from the engine bay.

we should get together some time once i get my brat back on the road, i am planning to come down some time this summer to see my dad and then head to the mountains to see the rest of my family. i am seeing a fun road trip:banana:
