bigo1966
Either i had too many beers lastnight when trying to install my 2" lift or im missing something. I cant push the hub down enough to get my 2" longer struts to slide into the top of the spindle/hub. Am i missing something? What am i supposed to do? The axle hits on where the lower control arm connects to the car. Do i need to use a spring compressor? O
TheSubaruJunkie
Did you install the blocks that drop your engine crossmember? This should give you the extra drop you need to install your struts.
bigo1966
No, i was told 2" on the struts would be ok without dropping the engine. I might have to do the washer spacer trick.
TheSubaruJunkie
Dont know who told you that. Like to see this when your finished.
Gloyale
Unbolt the control arm pivot bolt and the sway bar bracket. You should now be able to move it around more and get more flex. 2 inches should be fine without blocks, although you're camber is going to be crazy positive \---/
bigo1966
Sweet ill try to get that done ASAP. Im not too worried about the \ / look, if is that bad ill do something to fix it. O
The Beast I Drive
you could extend the lower control arms, but then I would be worried about over extending the axles
Scott in Bellingham
Dont know who told you that. Like to see this when your finished. it may have been me, Ive done it on a couple cars
TheSubaruJunkie
I would think that 2" will hyperextend the CV"s and cause all kinds of camber issues.
Scott in Bellingham
I would think that 2" will hyperextend the CV"s and cause all kinds of camber issues. true on the EA81s on my white EA82 car Ive been running 1-1/2 over stock and on 2 other cars Ive ran and totaly abused 2" over stock with no CV issues
Gloyale
I would think that 2" will hyperextend the CV"s and cause all kinds of camber issues. The adjustable struts on 85,86 EA82s give you nearly 1 1/2 of lift. 2 inch isn't that much more.
bigo1966
2" looks badass, thanks for the help with this project. ill post some pics as soon as my gf gets back with her camera. the camber is not bad at all, it is ther ebut i can live with it on this toy. oh yeah i also got a 270.00 dollar ticket for operating my street legal liscensed vehicle in an OHV park......so pissed going to get my drink on now. OHV means ATV only i guess...more story to that. Orion
MilesFox
on my sedan i shoved in some coil spring spacers and yes, did the washer trick on the engine crossmember. there is enough threads there to go at least half inch. i didnt have crazy ccamber issue, althoug it was only coil spacers. on the radius rod at the bushing it is possible to get more positive caster on the struts
chazmataz
so did you put a 2" spacer on top of your strut? mine are spaced at about 1 3/8". when i tried to extend it more my axle hit the pivot point of the control arm while driving, especially when the suspension flexes like when accelerating from a light. i may end up putting coil spring spacers on and trying that someday to. i would like to know what you did and how you did it, i may end up trying to add more again but i have been content with what i have so i'm just curious. hope you get your pictures up soon would like to see them. chaz
bigo1966
I had some leftover 4" exhaust pipe. Cut 2 2" sections, and welded....pics are worth a millon words......I also cut 6 2"x1.5" plates and welded for added support for jumping and whatever i throw its way. I had to take off the lower ball joint, slide the strut into top and bottom and compress the spring a little to get the lower ball joint back in place....it was a PITA!!!!!!!! Here are some pics of the struts. the buggyroo looks much better. http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii295/orionsworld/?action=view¤t=DSCN2750.jpg http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii295/orionsworld/?action=view¤t=DSCN2745.jpg http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii295/orionsworld/?action=view¤t=DSCN2746.jpg http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii295/orionsworld/?action=view¤t=DSCN2749.jpg http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii295/orionsworld/?action=view¤t=DSCN2748.jpg http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii295/orionsworld/?action=view¤t=DSCN2712.jpg http://s267.photobucket.com/albums/ii295/orionsworld/?action=view¤t=DSCN2715.jpg
one eye
true on the EA81s on my white EA82 car Ive been running 1-1/2 over stock and on 2 other cars Ive ran and totaly abused 2" over stock with no CV issues I got it now and it seems to work great. It only issue is removing or replacing the motor you don't have any room to work with, you cant jack the tranny up or you'll break the axle. other than that it's good to go!! Jeff Jut drive out the roll pins to let the axle slide on the stubs. Then you can jack up the trans.
