ghur
85 gl 4wd Driving when all gauges went dead, had to keep revs up to keep motor running. Coasted to stop, found 15A "motor meter" fuse blown. Replaced fuse, turned ignition "on" & fuse blows again after 5 secs. Pulled alternator & found it putting out a bit less than 13 volts @ Schucks tester. This scenario seems unrelated to each other according to wiring diagram, so am stumped re: possible cause. Intend to pull dash to look for shorts - any thoughts would be appreciated from you guys as to what to what might be cause. I'm thinking alternator is weak to cause running problems, but why would cause blown fuse?
Durania
Replace your alternator first.
[HTi]Johnson
I can see a crappy voltage regulator spiking the amps, causing fuses to blow.
GeneralDisorder
If the engine was not running when the second fuse blew, then your problem is NOT the alternator. You have a short somewhere. The alternator does sound weak though - should be 14.2 to 14.8. Most in good condition will be right at 14.5 at the sensor junction. GD
[HTi]Johnson
Replaced fuse, turned ignition "on" & fuse blows again after 5 secs. Forgot that part :-\
