1992 legacy bogging out

Recommended Posts

Firstly, I would like to apologize for likelihood that I am posting this in the wrong place...

Ok, so I recently purchased a standard 1992 legacy (front wheel drive). The car is pretty clean, the interior is awesomely preserved, and the car has little cancer/body damage. My problem is that the car seems to run quite rich and bogs out when attempting give it gas. I changed the wires/plugs/air filter so far and haven't gotten much improvement.I have various theories on how to fix the problem, but don't have money to waste on replacing parts that may or may not fix my car.Next in line for replacement is fuel filter(when i get paid),and if that doesn't fix it then what? Mass air sensor? Fuel pump? o2 sensor? also, the previous owner straight piped the exhaust minus the cat....could this be the culprit? The car drives nicely despite being a little loud (once you get the rpms going)...I only have 500 bucks wrapped into it and the car has 200k+ on the odometer....I am not looking to restore it, I only would like to get my 500 bucks worth. Any suggestions/advise I can get will be of great value to me...

Thanking all in advance: zoltan16866

just to let you know as i have found many times subarus are really picky about plug wires. i used to buy what was cheapest ones and found that if you didn't put a set of NGKs they would bog. this has happened to me many times and different subarus.

the fuel filter is the next good place to go. maybe cleaning the air flow sensor would be a go thing to do.

one thing at a time, but even with the bog you can still drive it. and a running subaru for $500 is pretty good.

good luck
