bheinen74 Posted March 31, 2008 Share Posted March 31, 2008 Going to be installing the 4" lift kit this spring on my Brat.....anybody have recommendations for me..... like what stuff do i need for the exhaust (longer hangers?), just general advice......any help thanks. I have front brake extensions, and the steering extension, what about the rear brakes lines? gonna get this all thought out and anything i need. longer radiator hoses? any part numbers or what has worked for you already lifted guys. [HTi]Johnson Posted March 31, 2008 Share Posted March 31, 2008 When I install the kits, I extend the rear brake lines, because my lifts lower (lower: as in raise the body off of it) every rear end component except the mustache bar. I use a double female connector with a 4" extension brake line. I put the double female on the line coming out of the body, that goes into the soft line and then attach the extension, then put the extension in the soft line and attach the extension to the double female. As for the exhaust, you should be able to get away with having it mounted in the stock locations, as most of them are attached to the pieces that get lowered. You'll need gas lines, to be safe. Custom-ish radiator hoses (just have to find what fits), pitch stopper might need to be extended, steering shaft extended, and shifter(s) extended. Mick- I think i am going to drop in all new MWE axles when i do this lift, so i am not so sure about the rear disc conversion, unless maybe you have the parts. If you're just installing it you need: Floor Jack Jackstands Metric Socket set with socket Wrench Metric Box wrenches PB Blaster (just in case) Impact Wrench (can be done without, but makes it easier) Safety glasses (so crap doesn't fall in your eyes) Philips screw driver.... that's all I can think of right now. You have 20plus year old car. You are going to need that impact wrench, it will make it go sooooo much faster and easier. Anyone you know have one you can transport easily. Dynapar Posted April 2, 2008 Share Posted April 2, 2008 I am in the process of lifting my 84 brat right now. Mine is a Minnesota car so it is being special. I do not have an air compressor and things are moving along at a decent pace. Definately have alot of PB blaster handy. You will probably end up needing to get some new bolts and such, as this old stuff tends to break even if you are careful. Make sure you get some anti seize for the reinstall, it will be nice for if you ever need to get anything out again. as for actual tools so far I have used the following: 36mm socket (axle nuts) 2" Wrench (works great for prying off stuck on DOJ cups, not neccessary though) 22mm Socket (diff carrier bolt) 19mm Socket & Wrench 17mm Socket & Wrench 14mm Socket BFH! (one of the most important tools) 3/8" & 1/2" breaker bars Punch set (removing axles) Wire brush (cleaning rusty threads) Thats what I can remember off the top of my head, there are sure to be more.
