bratsrus1
Hi This is Jerry, i have a question for the people that have done the swap EA81 to the 2.2 engine. The radiator will the EA81 keep the 2.2 engine cool even in the hot summer? I know i need to get the inlet and outlet change to larger ports but will it keep that big block engine cool or do i need to install the EJ radiator. Please let me know Thanks Jerry
Phizinza
I used a standard good condition EA81 radiator with mine. Only time it went over the line on the thermometer was on a 39degree © day in the sun driving north in South Australia. It got about two thrids up the gauge and as my mates car was heating up too we decided to cruise at 90kph instead of 100kph. This got the temps back down and happy. I used two 11" aircon fans from a Mazda with this setup. Was an EJ22 btw.
Numbchux
I think the water pump and cooling passages in the EJ-series motors are substantially more effective. Since my old EA82 radiator could barely keep the EA82 cool with new pump and tstat, but was plenty for the EJ22. only reason I replaced it was it started leaking. Please let me know Thanks Jerry I am using a EA81 radiator. I did the hose in a hose trick to get the radiator hoses to work. Took the old EA81 hose and trimmed it at the collar and then put the EJ one on top of that. One thing that I had to do for the lower radiator hose was use a bit of metal tubing to extend it. W/the lift and the EJ, it was hard to find a radiator hose that had the right bents. BW
ShawnW
Jerry I have a radiator that is modified to have the lower outlet point down and the outlet is sized up to match the thermostat housing. I am going to be selling it too, if you want first crack at it let me know. It worked great with my 4" lift until I changed the lift design dramatically. $80 plus shipping for the radiator and I will throw in some shifter parts for your conversion kits as core parts. Has about 3000 miles on the radiator.
