benebob
The XT6's rear bearing started to get some play a few weeks ago and now the Brat has a front wheel bearing issue (at least it has play and makes some grinding when going around a turn- it is just raining to hard to have a decent looksee). I replaced the rears on the Brat last spring. IT SUCKED!!!! I had to remove the whole arms and take them to have the bearings pressed out. Is it easier to do the front BRAT bearing than the rear? How hard is the XT6 2wd rear bearing?
Meeky Moose
should be easier than the brat cause theres no axle to play with...
benebob
That's my thought too. I'm just wondering how much easier. I don't have a garage to work in as the SVX is hibernating out there. As for the BRAT I'm wondering if it is even worth doing as I'm gonna take it in to get the distributer rebushed.
GeneralDisorder
2WD rear subaru wheel bearings are really easy. At least on EA81 cars they are - I assume your XT is probably similar. No pressing involved. GD
edrach
Front wheel bearing noise can often be caused by a loose castle nut on the axle. Check that it's tight before you go through the effort of replacing the front bearings.
Subafreak
I just did the front bearings on my Loyal the other day. Alot easier than the rears (no retainer) same as the BRAT. Still requires a press, I guess, or just a steady hand and the right BFH. The 2WD XT rears are just like any old RWD amarican car, just unbolt and take out. Why don't you convert that XT6 to AWD? Also when are you gona give me that BRAT? It's the replica of my first cruck.
baccaruda
some places don't charge differently if the spindle is brought in off of the car.. my friend justin did his front bearings and a couple places he called only had equipment to replace the bearings on the car, instead of a stand alone press.. and their service price was the same. might save you some work, call around.. That blows about the press. As for converting the XT6 that really is something I wanted to do (have a 5 speed tranny in the basement) the downside is she is my WRX beater in autoxing. If I convert it to AWD I would also need to convert to the air suspension to remain legal in the H Stock class. It really wouldn't be nearly as competative in any other catagories. As for the BRAT. She's been frustrating me as of late. Probably b/c she didn't get an xmas present. If the price is right she can become a new englander. That is if I can't convice BattleAxe that he needs to trade me his XT6 for her.
Subafreak
Well I guess if it's already kicking WRX rump roast at the track then just keep it the way it is, with AWD you'd just have more stuff to brake anyway. I will get another BRAT someday but right now I don't have any time for another prodject car, I already have 3 parts cars and my Legacy sitting in the body shop at work so my boss probly dosn't want anymore yard orninmants. benebob
Know what you mean. It doesn't literally kick WRX butt but when you take the handicap into it WRXs eat XT6 dust:D :D .
