screwbaru2
The car is a 1996 impreza lx 4 dr w/ air. The heater control is disconnected from the control arm at the dash. Do any of you imp owners know a quick / easy way to reconnect it? I'm working blind as I have no manual for this car. I've got the control panel unscrewed and partially out. I can pull/push the cable, I can't see how it connects to the arm though the Z shape at the end of the cable gives me a hint. I can't even tell if the connector at the arm is broken as I don't know what a good one looks like. Last time a had to do this the cable was held on by a clamp/screw fastner. I can't see anyway to reconnect the cable without bending it. Any advise??

davebugs
In a few days I'll be digging in that area to replace the light bulbs. I haven't found a procedure yet (there is an excellent procedure for Legacy bulbs). I'll be working on a 97 Imprexa OBW. If no help by then I can take some pics for you. davebugs
Sounds good to me dave. I have a tendencey to break plastic parts. I'll wait. There may be a procedure for replacing these bulbs here or elsewhere that I just haven't found yet for an Impreza. If it has pics it should have what you're looking for. I haven't checked fuses or anything yet but knowing the issues with Legacy HVAC lights I'm expecting the same issues with the Impreza that doesn't light up. New engine is coming friday (probably) so I should have the Impreza back in the garage late tomorrow or friday to start engine removal and I can move up my dash disassembly to get some pics. I may write up the whole procedure if I still haven't found one. The Legacy writeup was excellent. Dave
screwbaru2
All the knowledge on this site and Davebugs is the only one who knows anything about this? No offense meant Dave.
davebugs
No offense taken. I can't believe that I can't find a writeup for the HVAC bulbs in an Impreza or for mutilating the bolt to remove a rear hub. I was looking on nosiac last night and no luck there either. Anyone enjoy writing these things up? I can take pics when I do both of these procedures. How to write it up and post it is something that I don't know how to do. I would think both would end up stickies. Dave
yohy
screwbaru2 and davebugs Here is the only link I have with regards to replacing the HVAC bulbs http://www.randomsoup.com/how_acpanelbulbs.html Now check out " Issue 1: The temperature control cable" this will outline both ends of the cable and should give you a good starting point. When I had my control panel out, I remember there (at least I think I remember) there was a small metal clip that held the cable to the back side of the control unit so it did slip off the attachment point. I hope this helps.
davebugs
Thanks for the link. The pics didn't work for me. I have done the procedure on two 97 Legacy's and found some excellent procedures - including dis-connecting the cable at the floor rather the control unit as your link states. I didn't have much luck with the Radio Shack bulbs so now I use dealer bulbs. Getting the rubbers off doesn't seem to work for me. It appears they get melted on a bit. Still looking for an Impreza procedure. I've had a bit of a setback with my motor swap but after that is done (or if the new engine gets delayed past monday) I'll do the dash bulb thing and take some pics on the 97 Impreza. screwbaru2
Thanks Yohy, I'm going to try and work on it some Sat. if a get to it I'll take some pics and add to this post. I'm pretty sure I need to unplug the wires from the controller to get it out any further. I had read that link a while ago and remembered the disconnecting of the cable at the box. I have got that far along yet.
yohy
screwbaru2, Again, what I remember is this and I did end up doing it both ways; it is far easier to get the cable hooked up and secured to the back of the control unit and then fish the loose end of cable down to the heater box then the reverse. Good luck.
