Subarutex
Ok... 1986 GL Wagon w/ EJ22 swap (originally carbed!) Just about any gear, under light to medium loads I get a stumble at about 2500rpm, sometimes as high as 3000rpm. Going WOT fixes the issue. Occurs in all sorts of temps, happens atleast 3-4 times a drive, thats even when I try to "drive around it" IE go WOT early in the rpm band. Now, I've been fixated on it being a fuel issue for awhile. Did a new fuel pump, filter, etc... still the same problem. Only issue left is that I'm running on a carb sized fuel system, and not a newer fuel injected one. Was/am planning to add a surge tank and second fuel pump to remedy this. Reading another thread, got me thinking about this VSS. Now, since my car was originally carbed, I don't know if I have this. Mainly because there was no ECU in my car. What/where is teh vss wire I should be looking for? I guess I need to know both the '86 one from the guage panel, and the EJ22 one from the ecu. Your thoughts? vss isssue? or is it a fuel issue? Numbchux
I don't know. throwing any codes? the VSS wire from the EJ ECU is pin 11 on B58 (smallest plug). the EA82 VSS is in the gauge cluster (show as the reed switch on the diagrams). I'm not sure if the '85-'86 clusters had them, but I do know that if nothing else, the newer clusters are 100% interchangeable (I had an '88 cluster in my old '85). I have the occasional stumbling on my swap, it's been pretty bad the last couple months. I was pretty sure it was the TPS since it seemed to only be a problem at partial throttle, the car runs fine a closed or WOT. I replace the TPS, and the problem went away for the night, but was back again the next day. I just did new plugs and wires a few days ago, and haven't noticed the problem yet (knock on wood). oh, and I ran the car for a year without the VSS hooked up. and noticed zero difference when I connected it last fall, except it stopped throwing the code. Subarutex
Just out of curiousity... are you running a ecu out of an automatic? If I remember correctly, mine is. It would make sense that the automatic cars would use the VSS more than the manuals...
