TheSubaruJunkie
My intermittent wipers on the '86 Brat never work right. It's either on, or off... and sometimes even off doesnt work. Its intermittent tho. Sometimes they will go intermittently... then other times they will just keep going and going and never stop. I usually have to put the switch somewhere in between Intermittent and slow to get them to stop. Ive beat the switch and it never works, what else controls my wiper motors that could cause this? -Brian
archemitis
if i read it right, sounds like you switch is messed up. i mean, if it sticks on, it cant be a hot wire shorting to ground, right? unless it short inside the switch, and gives power to everything inside the switch. pull out the continuity tester and start poking holes in wires, or maybe just change the switch
TheSubaruJunkie
Im so stupid when it comes to electricity. I can wire basic lights and the like... but when it comes to continuity and testing equipment im dump as silk. -Brian
TomRhere
I remember someone else had this problem, awhile back. Thinking that the delay control unit, is above the steering column, towards the center of the dash. It could be your culprit, or it could be the switch. The delay unit has a timer and a relay in it. Haven't had one out/apart, so I don't know if you'd be able to fix it any. Do the wiper work on low and hi as they should? Using a Digital Multi-Meter, isn't all that difficult, and they come with instruction for use. Cost varies, but you can get a good one for a small amount of $. A homemade test light can be used in some instances. You will need a road map (wiring diagram) to the color code of the wiring in order to chase down the various circuits in a vehicle. Someone here on the board has to have one to cover your BRAT.
TheSubaruJunkie
Yeah, slow and fast work fine. But intermittent is sometimes slow, and sometimes the switch wont turn them off. I'll look through my FSM for that control unit, and try to put the one from my wagon in the brat to see if thats the culprit. -Brian
mcbrat
also check to see if they are on seperate circuits... the circuit that lets the wipers finish their "cycle" after you shut them off, is a different circuit for sure...... might be related....
