76subi wagon
I was just wondering if anyone knows how an anti-diesling valve on the Hitachi carb can be checked to determine if it is operating properly. I have a 76 wagon 1.4L engine. Also, what would be the consequences of just removing the little plunger in there if I suspect it may be malfunctioning? backwoodsboy
It should screw right out. You can check for operation by having someone turn the key to "ON" (not start) while you listen for a -click- from the valve.
waimaks
Thats about the most 'checking' I think you can do. I had a problem with one sticking closed, pulled it out, and cleaned it up with white spirits/carb cleaner. 6 months so far and no more problems.. Spiffy
Also, what would be the consequences of just removing the little plunger in there if I suspect it may be malfunctioning? well, as the name implies it's anti-dieseling... so if you remove that function it won't be able to instantly cut the fuel and if the engine is warmed up it will continue to run and burn the excess gas in the line until it slowly sputters to a halt... personally, I like my car to stop running when I turn off the key... 76subi wagon
That's about what I figured. How would I know if it is sticking open or closed?
backwoodsboy
If its stuck closed... your sube wont run for long (if at all) If its stuck open, your engine can continue to "diesel" for a few seconds before it quits.
Spiffy
there could also be some gunk in there causing it not to open or close all the way... like waimaks said, take it out and clean it... it about the easiest thing to remove from a carb... --Spiffy
