wncsubaru
Hi, I have read the threads about pulling subarus with 4wd manual trans on dollys but I was wondering could you pull one with all four tires on the ground? the reason I ask is Im thinking of buying a subaru as a dinghy for my rv. Does anyone know of a tow bar made for early model subarus?

wncsubaru
What brand towbar did you use? I was going to tow a 4 door geo metro for the size and gas mileage(58-60mpg) but its a hassle cause you have to use a tow dolly.

I don't see a huge problem with that frankly - regardless of how the engine is turned (burning fuel, or mechanically) as long as it maintains a high enough RPM to get the oil pressure up it should be fine. Freeway speed in 2nd gear would be a pretty high RMP though..... perhaps the damage was from sustained high-RPM. Seems like it wouldn't hurt it too much though as there's no load from the cylinders fireing. An interesting tear-down for sure either way.
