nkx
im workin on my impreza coupe, putting in new headgaskets and seals and what not. i figured since im already in there, i should replace the clutch. its a 1.8 5mt awd 96 brighton, so do i need to find an ej18 specific clutch and flywheel, or are they somewhat interchangeable? reason being, this is going to be my rallycross car, and i would like a clutch with a little bit more sticking power than oem would offer, even though i dont plan on bumping up the power output (yet). Subie Gal
Yes you need to get a clutch which matches your drivetrain. 1.8-2.2's of the same model year and trim (AWD) are going to be compatible. Jamie
keltik
Unfortunately the turbo models use a completely different setup so if your non-turbo, your strongest clutch is going to be from a EJ22.
Reveeen
your strongest clutch is going to be from a EJ22. Or, a "custom" from a reputable re-builder. I live 1200 miles from these guys: http://www.euro-drive.com/ But wouldn't hesitate to let them build me a "special" clutch. http://www.euro-drive.com/performance.htm (In the '80s I used to sell these guys clutch cores, they were pretty picky about what they bought, what they didn't buy went to Fenco) I have sourced several Porsche and Maserati clutches from these guys without a problem.
