BoostedBalls
I tried to check my codes today in my 91 SS. I connected the green connectors under the dash on the left side then switched the key to run. All the warning lights came on and the cooling fan cycled on and off repeatedly. No flashing CEL and no flashing LED on ECM. (if there is one) Is there something I'm missing??? lmdew
Connect the black connectors close by the green one. Green puts the car in the D-Check mode, cycles through all the relays and sensors. Black will pull the codes Green and black at the same time will clear the codes
BoostedBalls
sweet, thanks for that.
BoostedBalls
I only see one black connector right near the green ones but it's only a single connector. There is a pair of black connectors above the driver's right knee but they are already plugged in.
lmdew
That's it, single plug about 1/4" wide. The other half may still be tapped up to the harness. It's there.
BoostedBalls
I found it! I got codes: 35, 44, 22, 32, 42, and maybe a 12,13,
BoostedBalls
so I got: 13- TDC sensor 22- ? 24- Air control valve or circuit 32- O2 sensor 35- PURGE SOLENOID!!! 42- Idle switch 44-? WTF? something is FUBAR, maybe the purge solenoid? I think I'll esearch that now...
OB99W
so I got: 13- TDC sensor 22- ? 24- Air control valve or circuit 32- O2 sensor 35- PURGE SOLENOID!!! 42- Idle switch 44-? [...] I assume "Boosted" refers to a turbo , so I think the correct code definitions are as follows:13 - Cam Position Sensor 22 - Knock Sensor or Circuit 24 - Air Control Valve or Circuit 32 - Oxygen Sensor or Circuit 35 - EGR Solenoid or Circuit 42 - Idle Switch or Circuit 44 - Wastegate Duty Solenoid (Turbo Models) With that many simultaneous DTCs, I'd suspect something common to all of them. There might be an ECU-related problem, possibly something as simple as a poor ground connection.
BoostedBalls
Yeah, the O2, wastegate solenoid and knock sensor codes were likely from me messing with them. But I haven't touched the purge solenoid. The car does seem to run a bit rich; I can smell heavy exhaust, no smoke though. I'll clear all the codes and then try disconnecting the purge solenoid and see how it runs. Then maybe I'll try sucking some seafoam through the solenoid. After that, I'll try running a fresh ground to the ECU.
BoostedBalls
I cleared all the codes and the car drove beautifully for 9 miles. I then checked the codes again and there are none stored! I got wood!
