Head bolt socket pics

Recommended Posts

No you can't reach the headbolts with a normal socket if you want to keep the cam carriers on (which is what you want when you're only retorquing)

It's like a shallow socket welded onto an thin extension, this allows you to clear the cam.

If you have to turn one down to make it thinner, put it on an extension, put that in a variable speed drill, and hold a piece of emory cloth on the socket as you spin it. I had to do that to get a spark plug socket to fit on an EA82 once.

Just watch it as the emory piece and the socket will get very VERY hot in a short notice. A hacksaw would work probably as well and takes 1/10th of the time.

In the past I used a shallow socket on a loose wobbler extension.

I had to thread the bolt down by hand almost all the way so I could get the socket on there.

I got lucky I guess...

And you torqued the head bolts with a wobbly extension in place???:-\

I got a hunch that didn't work too well.
