ok so I bought a Belkin Fm Transmitter at the apple store yesterday and when I plugged in into the 12volt everything was fine...until i started driving. It was all static and no music with the occasional radio station interference. It was definitely NOT worth the $80 I payed for it  and I'm returning it today. Any suggestions on what product is best for playing my ipod?

Thanks,

emmi

Sadly, the type you bought is prone to that. It's a matter of finding a quiet spot between radio stations to use it. Unfortunately, that spot changes if you're driving any distance at all. Return the unit.

I had the same problem and found the best solution was buying a radio with built-in iPod capability. I've seen a number of these recently and they are in the $100 to $200 price range (or more). Buy the one with the iPod connector already installed and "iPod ready" not the ones where you need to buy an extra adapter for another $50 or so.

I've got an "iPod ready" Alpine deck in my Legacy (the adapter cable was an extra $35). It's a really great solution, in my opinion. You can run your iPod cable to the glove box and keep Mr. Shiney N. Expensive out of sight. The iPod stays charged and you have full control through the deck.

I pulled the stock Subaru radio/CD player out of my 97 OBW and had a TV shop put a line on it that I can plug my iPod into. It just has a 1/8 stereo plug on the end that sits by the center console. They didn't charge much and it works great. I don't think they were able to simply plug into any rear inputs thought. They had to actually wire into something I think.
