Hey folks,

For my recent b-day, my darling girlfriend bought me a WARN 3700 LB winch. (now THATS a great girlfriend!)

I have everything in place to put it on my lifted brat.

Now the hard part.... power.

The specifications say that it requires 180 amps with a 2000 LB load, and 297 amps at full capacity.

I dont know about you... but I can hear my alternator crying right now!

Im sure the answer is going to involve a GM alternator and a larger battery... but what have any of you had good luck with for running winches?

THANKS!

I would recommend the XT6 alt at the least. And a Dual Battery setup for sure! You can probably get away with the stock alt, but definatly look into dual batteries. And the bigger the gauge wiring the better (or smaller gauge, whatever) just some big rump roast wire.

I've got one of those in my 89'. 16O amps, Large case, big bearings, super duper heavy duty, excellant cooing fan, and it sounds like a turbo, "serious, it does". I think it was like 85 bucks shipped, Two 1O dollar belts and a hand full of quarters for some bolts and $1.35 big a$$ lugnut to center/fasten the stock pulley. It took me about an hour with a D-shape file and a 1/2" drill bit to make it bolt up to the modified/stock brackets. Oh yeah, and the front fan rubbed on the support rib that runs on the underside of the hood when I loaded the motor down real hard, 2 hits with a 1/2 drive Craftsman Ratchet fixed that.
